The newly elected CM Manohar Parikar presented the budget of the state Goa on Friday. After the Parker come back as CM, prices on petrol and beer are set for a hike in the state. The new government increases the prices on the major two components of Goa’s tourism economy. Also, Parikar government promised to make tourism-focused state garbage-free by 2020. Besides that, the government is also planning to link all the social welfare schemes to Aadhar.

The price of petrol in the state will go up and reaches Rs 65 after the hike in VAT tax by 8 percent. However, fuel costs remains less when compared to neighboring states. The price of the bulk beer hike by Rs. 4 and reaches Rs. 24 per liter. Hiked prices are applied on beer both manufactured in the state and imported within or outside the country. Also, the CM said that the excise duty on beer would be hiked as well and license fee will be Rs 1 lakh for high-end spirit additives.

The Union Cabinet has approved to introduce the official amendments to the HIV and AIDS (Prevention and Control) Bill, 2014 today. The decision was given among several others that the Cabinet ratified in the meeting.

The HIV and AIDS Bill, 2014 have been drafted to safeguard the rights of people living with HIV and affected by HIV.  The Bill also aims to enhance the health care services for HIV-related testing, treatment and clinical research.

It prohibits any specific acts of discrimination by the state or any other person against HIV affected person or those who are living with the people. The Bill also prohibits any individual from publishing information or advocating feelings of hatred against HIV positive people and who are with them.

“Every person in the care and custody of the state shall have the right to HIV prevention, testing, treatment and counselling services,” stated the government.

According to the statement, those who are between the age of 12-18 years with sufficient maturity in understanding and managing the things of his/her HIV/AIDS-affected family can act as the guardian for their siblings who are minors.

The bill which was proposed in the last days of UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government has approved by the current government. As per the reports, the Cabinet has also approved two MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) in the meeting.

India signed a deal to buy 36 Rafale Fighter Jets

India has signed the deal of acquisition of 36 Rafale fighter jets from France on Friday.  The long-awaited negotiations to buy Rafale fighter came through on Wednesday. The Rafale deal was signed by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and French Defence Minister Yves Le Drian on Friday, which will cost (€7.8 billion) Rs 59,000 crore.

The deal was especially ink that eventually increases the Indian Air Force inventory. The Rafale fighter jets deal includes state-of-art Meteor Missile, which is an advanced one, the air-to-air missile, beyond the visual range of 150KM, SCALP missiles which are air-launched cruise missiles with a range of over 300KM and MICA air-to-air missiles.

As per the reports, the Rafale fighter will have at least 12 India-specific enhancements. The deliveries of jets are to begin within 36 months and will be completed by 66 months from the day of the contract.

The Rafale combat is a 4.5 Generation aircraft with twin-engine, canard-delta wing, multirole fighter aircraft that has a 3,600km range and it also features an aerial refuelling probe, 14 hardpoints for IAF (Indian Air Force) version. It will allow the aircraft to strike the target on the Pakistani soil even it is flying in the Indian airspace.

The Cabinet Committee on Security chaired by Prime Minister Modi cleared the deal on Wednesday among the rising tensions over Pakistan’s support to the terrorism and unrest. Narendra Modi has announced the deal to buy 36 Rafale fighter jets directly from France in the month of April 2016, but it took 17 months to sign the deal.

Army Chief Dalbir Singh Suhag files Affidavit Alleging Cabinet Minister VK Singh

Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag alleges General V K Singh of victimisation: files affidavit

Army Chief Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court alleging former chief VK Singh and Minister of State for External Affairs trying to block his promotion.

The affidavit against VK Singh stated “I was sought to be victimised by the then COAS” General V K Singh “with the sole purpose of denying me promotion to the appointment of Army Commander”.

“False, baseless and imaginary allegations of lapses were levelled against me in the show cause notice” of May 19, 2012, and the consequent imposition of an “illegal” discipline and vigilance (DV) ban.

According to defence source, the affidavit is filed against the Minister for trying to scuttle his promotion with “malafide intent and to arbitrarily punish him”, adding that he was being “victimised for extraneous reasons.”

Singh had slapped a ban on Suhag in 2012 for allegedly falling in Assam’s Jorhat in 2011.The ban period was between April and May 2012.

Dalbir Singh who was then General Officer Commanding of the Dimapur based 3 Corps said about Assam’s Jorhat operation  “on that day, I was away on the part of annual leave and rejoined duty on 26 Dec 2011”.

The affidavit came in response to the petition moved by Lt Gen (Retd) Ravi Dastane who alleged “favouritism” during Army commander selection. Dastane claimed that Suhag was at advantaged by the General Bikram Singh who had reversed the DV ban after V K Singh had retired on May 31, 2012.
