India got the privilege to host Kabaddi world cup 2016 which scheduled to take place in October. IKF (International Kabaddi Federation) announced this officially on Sunday 31 July 2016. 12 teams are all set in the preparations to participate in the upcoming Kabaddi world cup 2016.Star Sports will be the official broadcaster of the 2016 Kabaddi world cup.

Apart from India, the other 11 teams are United States, Canada, UK, Australia, Iran, Poland, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Korea, Japan and Kenya. All thanks will be deserved by the star sports host Pro Kabaddi league, which elevated Kabaddi to the global success.

The International Kabaddi Federation is immensely proud that Kabaddi is growing in popularity so fast and is all set to breakthrough on a global stage with the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup scheduled in India,” said Janardan Singh Gehlot, President, IKF.

“The phenomenal success of Pro Kabaddi and the participation of players from around the world is a testament to kabaddi’s promise as a global sport. We are delighted and proud to have India host 12 countries for the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup,” Gehlot added

Mohammad Raza Maghsodlou, vice president of the Asian Kabaddi Federation and secretary of Kabaddi Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran mentioned that the 12 teams are already engaged with training and other preparations for the World Cup.

“Iran sees a global future for Kabaddi. Of course, the team from Iran is very good, and we will participate with a view of lifting the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup,” Maghsodlou said.

Iran has been a very good team which gave a tough fight to the Indian team in the 2014 Asian Games finals. It is important to know that several Iranian Kabaddi players are star performers in the Pro Kabaddi league.

Kabaddi is said to be originated in the ancient India as a contact sport. Kabaddi is the national game of Bangladesh and state game of several Indian states. Kabaddi became a part of Asian games in 1990 and since then India has won all the gold medals.

IKF officials point out that they are taking special care to ensure that the selection of the participant teams for the World Cup is representative of every Olympic geography.
