Whatsapp Virus on the run: Defense and security forces alerts about 2 virus files

Defense and Security organizations received alerts from central security agencies about the malicious activity of the Whatsapp virus. Some groups with the false name of NDA and NIA may breach and hack the personal information and banking data.

On December 30th an advisory was released to the defense and security organizations in all states about the virus file. There are two virus files which are circulating over the instant messaging application. This file has the capability of seeing the information of the users especially defense people.

Kapustkiy a 17 Year Old Hacker Thanked by Indian Consulate General for Hacking into Websites

The officials of Indian Consulate General in New York on Wednesday thanked 17-year-old boy Kapustkiy for hacking into websites of Indian embassy and for helping them to find out web errors. An Indian External Affairs Ministry personally thanked the hacker who point out errors in Indian Diplomatic missions and allowed trespassers to gain access to nonpublic information.

Sanjay Kumar Verma, Joint Secretary, E-Governance and Information Technology wrote to the hacker Kapustkiy for hacking. He said, “Thank you for your advice. We are fixing codes slowly, and the problems were almost fixed. You help in penetrating websites of various Indian Embassies is a great help.”

Indian Embassy Websites Hacked, Leaking Valuable Data

Mr. Kapustkiy, the hacker posted a message to Verma mentioning that he has hacked websites of Indian Embassies in eight countries. Meanwhile, the official of Indian Consulate in New York said that their website was being secured.

L.T. Ngaihte, head of the chancery in a statement stated that “The Indian Consulate has taken immediate actions to ensure the site data. In addition to the New York, Kapustkiy had hacked websites of Indian Embassy in countries like South Africa, Libya, Malawi, Italy, Switzerland, and Romania and put the information of date on website pastebin.com.

Kapustkiy on Twitter said, “He is a student from Tokyo, and it took nearly 3 seconds to get access to their sites. Let’s know how weak their security was. My intention in hacking is for a good cause, and I didn’t consider myself as a hacker. My intention in hacking is not for any damage, but it is for administrators to pay attention to sites. There is a reason behind the posting of information on pastebin.com. I didn’t get any response from administrators when he pointed out errors, and for this reason, only I put useful data in pastebin.com.”

Mr. Verma wrote to Kapustkiy that “We appreciate your help, but please don’t post the details on pastebin.com.” However, the personal information of New York Consulate General that was posted on pastebin.com has been removed, but some non-personal information still is on site.

Two hackers addressing from Netherlands had hacked seven Indian High Commission websites and posted online numerous secure details like Login, Passwords, Database containing names, passport numbers, email ids, mobile numbers of Indian people, etc.

According to the latest reports, security pen-testers by the name of Kapustkiy and Kasimierz have entered into Indian Embassy Websites and stole valuable data. They also mentioned the reason behind their hacking. They said the hack was to oblige administrators to consider the cyber security of their websites seriously.

The Indian High Commissions sites those who faced hack had done an extraordinary investigation. After inspection, they said that they are susceptible to SQL injection vulnerability which lets the hacker to insert malicious SQL commands to the web application and get sensitive database information.

Several Indian cyber hackers have joined hands to launch a massive attack on Pakistan websites. Cybercrime experts claim that several cyber experts are working on hacking of Pakistani websites to carry out mass defacement attack on their websites. The defacement is an attack on a website that changes the visual appearance of a site or page.

A day after Indian army has carried out surgical attack on Pakistan; the National Cyber Safety and Security Standards said that its research team had cracked the official web gateway of Pakistan, i.e., gov.pk. The cyber experts also stated that they have waited for the command to launch the attack if needed.

Hackers Attack Central Bank Websites of Indonesia and South Korea

The central bank public websites of Indonesia and South Korea are reportedly hit by the cyber-attacks and distributed-denial-of-service (DDoS) disturbances linked to activist hacking group Anonymous pledged to target the global banking industry. It was disclosed that Central banks have been on high alert as cyber-terrorists issued deceitful money transfers to sneak $81 million from the Bangladesh central bank in the month of February.

In response to the hacks in the month, Bank Indonesia (BI) officials said that no money was lost. Deputy Governor Ronald Waas in an interview on Monday said that the bank have blocked 149 regions that don’t typically access its websites. The restricted regions include several small African countries. He also said that several central banks were hit by similar attacks and were sharing the IP addresses used by the hackers.
