Microsoft has come up with premium and stylish gadgets like Surface Pro 4, Surface Studio and Surface Book. It also has released the devices like 2-in-1, detachable notebooks, all-in-one desktops in the market place. The company is lagging behind in one segment, i.e., smartphones, currently with both the stand-alone mobile Operating system Windows Phone and the Lumia hardware line having been abruptly cancelled.
Now Microsoft’s Mobile efforts are moving around supporting the Windows 10 Mobile and running on the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) hardware similar to the HP’s Elite X3 smartphone. In the recent interview with Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella spoke about the company’s work on the “Ultimate Mobile Device.” To this reference, it made clear that Microsoft doesn’t want to compete with other smartphones in the market leads Apple and Android, which are head on with the consumer-focused devices. Microsoft has already tried and failed.
Microsoft is planning to focus and make its efforts on new market-defining the device which meets the smaller subset of users which offers the real value and differentiation. Microsoft’s “mobile-first, cloud-first” productivity solutions mainly focus on targeted squarely at the enterprise. It is likely that surface Phone will be designed in that direction as well.
Recent reports suggest that this device utilizes the Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 SoC (System-On-Chip). Along with this, it runs on a 64-bit version of Windows 10 Mobile with the enhanced version of Microsoft’s large-screen PC environment like Continuum, which supports legacy X86 applications.
