Microsoft has come up with premium and stylish gadgets like Surface Pro 4, Surface Studio and Surface Book. It also has released the devices like 2-in-1, detachable notebooks, all-in-one desktops in the market place. The company is lagging behind in one segment, i.e., smartphones, currently with both the stand-alone mobile Operating system Windows Phone and the Lumia hardware line having been abruptly cancelled.

Now Microsoft’s Mobile efforts are moving around supporting the Windows 10 Mobile and running on the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) hardware similar to the HP’s Elite X3 smartphone.  According to the reports, company is holding the strategy for few months and now it might now be their long-term direction, with the Surface Phone the real possibility happens, if only a bit delay.

In the recent interview with Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella spoke about the company’s work on the “Ultimate Mobile Device.” To this reference, it made clear that Microsoft doesn’t want to compete with other smartphones in the market leads Apple and Android, which are head on with the consumer-focused devices. Recent reports suggest that this device utilizes the Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 SoC (System-On-Chip). Along with this, it runs on a 64-bit version of Windows 10 Mobile with the enhanced version of Microsoft’s large-screen PC environment like Continuum, which supports legacy X86 applications.

Surface Phone is being tested with the multiple configurations and with the prototypes running both 4GB and 6GB of RAM to go with the Snapdragon 835. Another variant with 6GB version would be likely to run the enhanced Continuum mode, and this would be the one most business is focused.

The new updated version of Continuum is whispered to come with the Redstone 3 update, which will follow after Redstone 2 and expected in Sprint 2017. Mostly it will arrive in the second half of 2017.
