Google rolls out Now on Tap update

The search engine giant Google announced an update Now on Tap which adds new features like easy text translate inside any app, a new discover mode which is capable of quickly discovering what is more on your screen and QR/ Bar code scanning.

This update allows you to translate any text to other languages that Google Translate support and the new update is confined only to devices which are running on Android 6.0.

Marshmallow users whose default language is set to English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, or Russian will now find this translate feature in any app. You just need to long press the home button and tap the “Translate this screen” card, all your screen text will be translated to your phone’s default language.

Tap to translate is handy as it can even translate multiple languages instantly. “So if you’re using Google Maps and come across a location or a restaurant review in a foreign language, just long press the home button and continue reading,” wrote Aneto Okonkwo, Google Product Manager in a blog post.

The second feature on Now on Tap is the discover mode which helps you to learn more about the things that you are searching on your android phone. “It’s perfect for browsing and exploring, rather than searching for something in particular,” added Okonkwo.

For instance, if you are learning about Pluto and would like to find out more about NASA, just long press the home button for discover button. Tap on the “Discover” icon to get a stream of related links, YouTube videos and related news articles.

Google's new updateAnd finally as an expansion to the last month’s announcement – you can now use ‘Now on Tap ‘to learn about the products by using barcodes and QR codes. By simply pointing your camera at barcode or QR code you can get user reviews and “help cards” related to the product. The feature works for all packaged products like books, DVDs and more.
