Govt Rejects MS Dhoni, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, Neerja Bhanot for Padma Awards

The government has turned down the proposals to grant the prestigious Padma Awards for the most prominent personalities of the country. The rejected list includes most of the politicians, celebrities such as controversial spiritual leader Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, BJP MP Baijayant Panda, air hostess Neerja Bhanot (the late), table maestro Zakir Hussain and the former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

According to the list of 18,768 nominations made by the Public Home Ministry, the maximum number of nominations received is Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, NeerjaBhanot (who was killed during hijack in 1986) nominated by BJP MP Kirron Kher.

Apart from these, the other famous names that are turned down include journalist Arnab Goswami and music composer Anu Malik. The Padma Awards are expected to be awarded by the President Pranab Mukherjee later this year at the ceremonial function which will be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

For this year, President Pranab Mukherjee approved 89 recipients for Padma Awards which includes 75 Padma Shri, 7 Padma Bhushan and 7 Padma Vibhushan awards. As per the reports, Veteran BJP leader Murali Manohar Joshi and Nationalist Congress Party Leader Sharad Pawar who was awarded as the country’s second-highest civilian honour but they are not in the list of Padma Vibhushan nomination.

According to the Latest updates, Arnab Goswami new channel Republic will start airing before the much awaited Uttar Pradesh elections in the first part of 2017. Goswami became most familiar with his daily debate show “The News Hour” which has brought more than 60 percent revenue for the news channel and got a huge viewer base across the country. In 2006, Arnab joined in Times Now as Editor in Chief and emerged as one of the best journalists in India. Zakir Naik Slams Arnab Goswami with a Defamation Notice

Times Now Editor-in-chief and anchor, Arnab Goswami lands in trouble, he was served a legal notice. The Islamic preacher and  founder of the Islamic Research Foundation, Zakir Naik seeks damages worth Rs 500 crore for running a ‘hate campaign’ and ‘media trial’ against him.

It is mentioned in the notice issued by the Naik’s lawyer Mubin solkar, and the IRF founder wanted an outright apology from Goswami for hurting religious sentiments of Naik’s and Muslim’s. Zakir Naik also claimed against the channel for creating enmity and hatred between religious communities.

Solkar also issued notices against Arnab Goswami, Avinash Kaul, CEO Times Now, Megha Prasad, Bureau Chief Times Now, Sunil Lulla, CEO Times Global Broadcasting Co Ltd, and Times Global Broadcasting Co Ltd.

Zakir Naik is currently abroad, accused of inspiring terrorists in the Islamic state to attack and is attending the investigations for the recent Dhaka attacks. Naik didn’t return to India after the accusations made against him and only addressed Indian media through his video appearances. This is for the first time that Naik is filing a legal notice against media.

“The legal notice seeks that Goswami furnishes in writing his sources of information and any evidence for making defamatory statements and charges against Dr Zakir Abdul Karim Naik and withdraw the defamatory statements made by him during the live telecast of The Newshour Debate on Times Now,” said Mubin Solkar. “Peremptorily, we have fixed the damages at Rs 500 crores and asked for those damages as well.

Dr Naik has claimed Five hundred crores of INR for the damages that have been caused to his reputation and his image in India and the entire Islamic world. In fact, the damage that Goswami has caused my client is far more than Rs 500 crore.” He added.

Government Authorities of India and Bangladesh had taken action against Naik’s “Peace TV.” The Islamic preacher is also banned in certain countries like the UK for his speeches which provoke hatred. Naik’s lawyer blames Times-now channel for promoting disharmony and feelings of hatred. The controversial preacher has alleged that the news channel is defamed and hurt the sentiments of his community who holds him as a great idol.
