Yes, breastfeeding is a mother’s gift to herself, her baby and the earth too. Growth of height, weight and immune system of babies poorly depend upon the milk they are fed during the infant stage. No milk can replace mammas milk that comes in exact temperature, taste and rich in nutrition. So, to support breastfeeding World Breastfeeding Week was formed.

Since 1992, World Breastfeeding Week is being celebrated every year from 1st to 7th August. Many countries in the world organize promotional and support events to make everyone aware of breastfeeding benefits to mother, child and eventually to the society. A healthy society is when the people are healthy both mentally and physically. Mother’s breastfeeding to babies below six months helps to develop immune system of infant and adult too. Breastfeeding reduces the risk of infections and diarrhea. Remember that babies always love milk from mummy not from any old cow.

So, the WBW is to raise the awareness among people and to enlighten them that breastfeeding strengthens baby as well as mother. WHO, UNICEF promotes benefits of breastfeeding by organizing many events all around the world. The Theme of World Breastfeeding Week 2016 is “Breastfeeding-A key to Sustainable Development.”
