On Tuesday, the global telecom body GSMA has launched a mobile-based authentication solution, Mobile Connect in India. Country’s six largest telecom network operators have teamed up to offer Mobile-connect services. Mobile-connect is a universal authentication solution which ensures security and smooth access of mobile services on consumers mobile devices. Consumers can create and manage digital identity through single login. So, this makes it easy without the mess of remembering multiple usernames and passwords.

The six MNO’s of the country-Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, Tata Teleservices, Aircel, and Telenor serve above 800 million consumers across India. These millions of users will be benefited with the Mobile-connect service to access websites, apps and other services just by using their mobile numbers. The Director General of GSMA, Mr. Mats Granryd said, “India is already the world’s second-largest mobile market and as the country enters a new phase of mobile industry growth that will unlock far-reaching social and economic benefits, it is critical that consumer security is ensured at all times.”
The digital authentication solution, Mobile connect service is currently implemented in 22 countries by 42 mobile network operators. The service is available to about three million consumers all across the world. In a press release GSMA stated that, “The Mobile Connect solution enables customers to create and manage a digital universal identity via a single login. The service simply and securely authenticates users, enabling them to digitally confirm their identity and their credentials and grant safe online access to mobile and digital services.”

Well, the service is not new here, presently much service provides like GaneshaSpeaks, Goibibo, Trupay, Twigly, Zee Digital Group and Zomato in India are offering Mobile Connect login option. Facilitated by mXpresso, B2B (Business to Business) Mobile-Connect services are also set up by BuyHatke and Times Mobile Ltd.
