Hotstar has announced its new storytelling format, CinePlay as an expansion to its Premium Service. Hotstar Originals’ CinePlay is publicized to showcase classics and contemporary stories from the theater background which will be presented in a cinematic fashion.

The new format will bring the works of renowned directors, leading playwrights together. Also, it gets the best of the actors from both cinema and theater. Hotstar also disclosed the deal with Disney followed by the announcement. This move provides access to the hotstar for films made in four different studios - Pixar, Lucasfilm, Marvel, and Disney itself. In addition to this hotstar also gets television content from Disney’s ownership of ABC Studios.

Amazon launches Prime video service in India to take over Netflix

With more than 60 million users, Hotstar claims to be the largest premium streaming platform in India. Furthermore, it’s watch time was more than 20 times that of Netflix and 12 times that of Amazon Prime Video. Discussing more the CinePlays, it brings the most renowned stories from the theater. Right from leading playwrights like Badal Sircar, Mohan Rakesh, Dr. Vijay Tendulkar, and Mahesh Dattani to name a few.

The productions have been influenced by renowned directors like Nagesh Kukunoor and Santosh Sivan. They will feature theater and film actors including Saurabh Shukla, Lillete Dubey, Nandita Das, Swanand Kirkire, Namit Das, Rajpal Yadav, Sonali Kulkarni, Darshan Jariwalla and others.
