Camera in a smartphone has become one of the key elements to choose the right pick. You’ll get a better camera as you go up in the price range, but how about budget phones? Do we really need to compromise up on camera? If you are the one who is dreaming about the best camera in the budget phone, this Honor 6X review is for you. A year after Honor 5X, the company has launched Honor 6X with some good specs.

Though the maker has produced Honor 8 in the earlier year, it has limitation considering its price.  Now, the Honor 6X made its debut in the high competitive segment with dual camera support. It is more interesting to see how the Honor 6X will compete with the Moto G4 plus and the latest Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. Here we detail you about the specs and features of the device in this Honor 6X review.

Design:

The Honor 6X is a typical metal built smartphone with a great finish. The phone borrows more of its design cues from the Honor 5X, and you don’t find any major design upgrade. The metal chassis has got quite smooth finish which also results in bad gripping. Even the gentle curves failed to provide a great in-hand experience, and the handset is slippery. However, the phone sports a premium looks visually.

Coming to the front, it’s a typical slab with no physical keys on it. You may complain about the stupid bezel length on the bottom which makes no sense. On the top, you get a 3.5mm audio out jack and a secondary noise cancellation microphone. A micro-USB type charging port is provided on the bottom edge with speaker and microphone on either side of it.

The device’s right edge packs the volume rockers and home button, while the left side packs the Hybrid SIM slot. The buttons placement is quite a regular one which we come across in most of the budget smartphones. On the rear side, Honor 6X has the dual-camera setup with fingerprint sensor below it. Overall, the device looks great with good built quality, but there are places where it could have been better.

Alcatel Idol 4 Review: Know What’s Beyond VR Experience

Display:

The Honor 6X features a 5.5-inch full-HD screen with 1080 x 1920 display resolution. The IPS LCD panel is protected by a 2.5D curved glass and offers pixel density of 403 ppi. The thin borders on either side of the display make at least basic one-handed use possible. The brightness levels of the device are good and are great to use it outdoor. Viewing angles are good, and the color reproduction is found adequate.

You also don’t find any visible disturbance around the text. You may notice about colors being little washed away when you go in detail. Software enhancements like color temperature adjustment and contrast-enhancing mode are there for you to get a better display. On the whole, the display is great if you don’t compare it with flagships like Galaxy S7 and OnePlus 3T.

Moto M review: Performance focused Motorola with design

Honor 6X performance:

The Honor 6X packs a Huawei in-house developed SoC, Kirin 655. The midrange octa-core chipset clocks at 2.1GHz and is coupled with Mali-T830 GPU for graphic duties. The Kirin 655 offers equal performance of Qualcomm Snapdragon 625, so you won’t have any repents for Honor 6X price in India. Though it does not compete with the powerhouse of SoC, it packs the real punch to manage games and apps well.

Honor 6X is available in India with 3GB with 32 GB storage or 4GB RAM with 64 GB storage. Users can choose the right one according to their usage and price fit. Other specifications of the Honor 6X include Wi-Fi b/g/n, USB-OTG, Bluetooth 4.1, FM radio, and 4G VoLTE support. However, the Wi-Fi is not dual band support, which is quite disappointing. The fingerprint scanner works well and can also be assigned to unlock apps.

The phone won’t lag anywhere and handles multitasking with ease. You don’t even find any heating issues even on heavy usage including gaming. The stock music and video players on the Honor 6X perform the media duties very well. It can also play 1080p video files and FLAC audio files. Few audio enhancement options like SWS can be experienced when you plug-in your earphones. The audio-out speaker placement is a bit disturbing while gaming.

Gaming in Honor 6X is flawless, even heavy graphic games are brilliant. The device just does well what even you throw at it. You don’t even complain about any frame drops and lags while gaming. Games like Dead trigger 2 and Nova 3 are brilliant. Undoubtedly, Honor 6X is one of the best devices to recommend if you are a heavy gamer. But the only thing is you need to pick the higher 4GB RAM variant. Benchmarks score by 3DMark Unlimited is about 11840 and 57530 points by AnTuTu.

Software:

Before we skip into the Software section in our Honor 6X review, I have an important note for you. You almost get the same software feel of Honor 8 in the new Honor 6X. The smartphone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with heavily customized EMUI 4.1 on top. Only a few features like ROG power saving mode made a skip in the Honor 6X. Also, the smartphone offers plenty of customizations with the single-layered EMUI. Interestingly, the notification bar splits into tabs, separating the toggle switches from notifications.

The recent apps screen is now appeared in cards, not in tiles which you usually find in stock version. The Smart Assistance sub-menu in the Settings app grants a host of convenience features. Adding to these, some motion- and voice-based gestures also work well. There are many other services like Emergency Services menu, HiCloud for what you spend on Honor 6X price in India. You get a lot of bloatware pre-installed, but thankfully, you can remove all the third-party apps.

Vivo V5 Review: Is that just a ‘Perfect Selfie’ Show?

Camera:

Here we come to the highlight area of Honor 6X, the dual cameras. It flaunts a dual camera set up on the rear, which popular budget smartphones like Redmi Note 4 don’t have. The 12 MP primary sensor is accompanied by a 2-megapixel sensor below it. However, the secondary sensor is used only for proving the depth in the image rather than enhancing the picture quality. The main camera employs a Sony IMX386 sensor and does support PDAF.

Images are sharp, properties are good in detail and colors are pretty accurate. The camera app is another Honor 6X feature which you find more interesting. It allows you to choose an aperture range between f/0.95 to f/16 aperture to get some good effects. The sensor clicks excellent pictures in daylight, night clicks are acceptable but are not the best. Focus speeds are great in daylight and a bit sluggish in low light conditions. The camera does fare well in various conditions, and you don’t find any noise in the colors.

The front sensor on the Honor 6X captures sharp selfies in daylight but lacks its performance in low light. There are plenty of filters and shooting modes to choose up on applying for selfies. The Honor 6X enables video recording up to 1080p, and the video quality is good. The video output is steady, and there are few places where it could have been better. Nevertheless, it certainly gives a steady and great video clips.

Battery:

A 3340mAh non-removable battery backs Honor 6X. The battery setup does an excellent job resulting in the phone running throughout the day. The Kirin 655 is another factor for providing an excellent battery life. The only case where you find a major battery drop is gaming. If you are not a heavy user, it serves you a complete day of usage.

On a heavy usage, which includes gaming for a couple of hours, the phone remained alive for 12 hours. Honor 6X battery could be better if we compare to its competitors like Xioami Redmi Note 4 and Moto M. The battery provides a fast charging option with the 10W power adapter supplied in box. The battery gains back from 0 to more than 50 percent just in an hour of charge.

The software and the performance are great for a regular usage. The Honor 6X price in India is decent considering its specs what it offers. You even don’t find a reason to complain about the Kirin 655 as well. The camera-centric device won’t disappoint you for the price what you spend.
