Major media entities like Facebook, Twitter, Reliance Jio and other 18 companies have bought the Invitation to Tender document for the next cycle of IPL television and digital rights.

The television rights which taken for IPL in the Indian subcontinent is valid upto 2027, and digital regions are valid upto 2022. Authorities have given October 25th as the last date to bid the IPL media rights.

Upto now Sony Pictures Network India has taken responsibility for the IPL television rights.  Star India has taken the digital rights and overseas media rights. That contract except in UK and US expires in the year 2017. So many companies came forward for bidding of next Indian Premier League.

BCCI president Anurag Thakur said “with the global trends of showcasing multiple platforms becoming increasingly important. TV, the internet and mobile rights are up for grabs together for this time.”

Rahul Johri, BCCI chief executive said “IPL television rights are given for ten years because in India television is very established”. “If you look at most cricket tenders, eight years-ten years have been the norm. That’s why we went for ten years. In digital trends change very fast; that’s why we have reduced digital to five years.”

The companies that purchased the tender are Facebook, Amazon, twitter,  Star India, Sony Pictures networks, times internet, super sport international, reliance jio digital services, Gulf DTH, group m Media India, Bein IP,  Econet UK, Sky UK, BTG legal services, BT PLC and ESPN digital media.
