rio day 12 highlights

On 12th day at Rio, United States athletes showed great performances with medals in their list. India saw its first medal bronze from Sakshi Malik in wrestling.

American Brianna Rollins won gold in the women’s 100 metres hurdles final. Jamica’s Elaine Thompson took the women’s 200 metres gold medal finishing in 21.78 seconds.

Tianna Bartoletta of United States won gold in women’s long jump. Chinese duo win Men’s table tennis by defeating Japan 3-1 in the final.

Jamicas Usain Bolt qualifies for 200m finals, Justin Gatlin and yohan blake out of the qualifiers.

United States team beat Argentina, 105-78 and made to the semi-finals of the Men’s basketball tournament. The team will be facing Spain in their next match.

Sakshi Malik wins Bronze in Women’s Wrestling: The First Indian Female Wrestling Olympic Medallist

Sara Dosho of Japan won gold 3-1 defeating Russia’s Natalia Vorobieva in women’s 69kg freestyle wrestling final.Britain reached Women’s hockey finals after beating, New Zealand 3-0. The team will be facing Netherlands in the finals.

Kaori Icho of japan wins women’s 58kg wrestling event beating beat Russia’s Valeriia Zholobova 3-1. India’s Sakshi Malik and Tunisia’s Marwa Amri won the bronze medals.

Japan’s Eri Tosaka won gold in 48 Kg women’s freestyle wrestling final.

Indonesia’s badminton duo  Ahmad Tontowi and Liliyana Natsir, clinched Gold after beating Malaysia 21-14 21-12 Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying.

India at Rio:

Finally India opened its medals account with the first one clinched by Wrestler Sakshi Malik in 58 kg womens wrestling freestyle.

Vinesh phogat fellow wrestler competing in 48Kg womens wrestling freestyle left the competition with injury.

Kidambi srikanth fought to keep up his hopes but lost to the defending champion,  lin dan 21-6, 11-21, 21-18. The first set was a terrible loss to kidambi as it was dominated by his counterpart. However, he gave a tough fight in the second set winning it. Athelete Tintu Luka ended at 29th position in 800m race finishing in 2:00.58.
