Mumbai people can now travel by any means with one ticket: Indian railways is making constant efforts to assists travelers in a smart way. Integrated ticketing concept is one of such most ambitious projects which Indian railways have announced earlier. Essentially, this integrated ticket platform allows users to travel by any means with one ticket. The project has been finally started, and Mumbai has been elected for the pilot run of the project.
With this integrated ticket, Mumbai people can now travel in a train, metro, bus, auto or a taxi. Undoubtedly, this integrated ticketing in Mumbai will be an extremely benefitting initiative by Indian railways.
Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will be managing the project within Mumbai. All public transports like BEST buses, metros, local trains, auto rickshaws black-and-yellow taxis will be integrated within this system.
Officials from Central and Western Railway and Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) are planning strategies on this integrated ticketing. BEST, which spearheads bus services across Mumbai city and Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) have agreed for the implementation of integrated ticketing system.
“MRVC will present the railways’ perspective to the MMRDA, which is the primary organization for the integrated ticketing system,” says, Prabhat Sahai, chairman, and MD, MRVC.
However, there are two stages involved in this new initiative by Indian railways. A special software should be integrated with the existing ticketing system at Mumbai railway stations and Mumbai metros. Special entry and exit gates should be installed exclusively for the integrated system of ticketing.
MMRDA is planning to call for tenders to execute single ticketing platform. This concept of integrated rail tickets will be rolled out across the India soon based up on the results in Mumbai.
