BSNL to launch a promotional unlimited wireline broadband plan which translates into less than Re 1 per GB download cost for users if they subscribe up to 300GB data in a month. The state-run telecom is trying to take over Reliance Jio 4G offer of Rs.50 per GB. BSNL is looking to grab new customers to its new wireline broadband offer.
“BSNL is going to launch a very cost-effective and affordable promotional unlimited Broadband plan ‘Experience Unlimited BB 249’ from September 9, 2016,” the telecom PSU said in a statement. “Under this scheme, customers can download unlimited Broadband data without bothering about any data limit in GB. BSNL shall offer 2 Mbps speed under this plan,” the statement added.
It is believed that the plan will attract the new users by enhancing the experience of wireline broadband services. If a subscriber uses this plan continuously in a month, by just paying Rs.249, they can download up to 300GB.
“Hence, per GB of data download cost comes out as less than Re 1 per GB. After six months, the customer will be migrated to one of the regular broadband plan based on the choice of the customer,” said, BSNL.
At the recent Reliance Industries AGM, the company has announced the “affordable” data rates against the market rate of RS.250 per GB. Jio 4G service rates will be around Rs. 25-50 per GB targeting 100 million users in the shortest possible time span.
BSNL also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with state telecom Department concerning the objectives based on the performance assigned to the telecom PSU.
