China Launches First X-Ray Space Telescope via Long March 4B to Study Black Holes

First X-Ray Space Telescope

China successfully launched the first X-ray space telescope into the orbit from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in northwest China’s Gobi Desert at 11:00 am. Long March-4B rocket carries 2.5 tonne telescope to study black holes, pulsars and gamma-ray bursts, according to media report.

Touted to be the result of the “wisdom and efforts of several generation of scientists”, the 2.5-tonne Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope is expected to “push forward the development of space astronomy and improve space X-ray detection technology in China”, reported Xinhua.

The Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (HXMT), named Insight, will help scientists to understand the evolution of black holes and observe magnetic fields and the interiors of pulsars and it also helps Chinese scientists search for gamma-ray bursts corresponding to gravitational waves and also allow to study how to pulsars can be used for spacecraft navigation, Xinhua said.

“Insight is expected to push forward the development of space astronomy and improve space X-ray detection technology in China,” Xinhua said.

“We are looking forward to discovering new activities of black holes and studying the state of neutron stars under extreme gravity and density conditions, and physical laws under extreme magnetic fields,” Xinhua quoted HXMT lead scientist Zhang Shuangnan as saying.

Last month, China opened a “Lunar Palace” laboratory on Earth to simulate a moon-like environment and house students for up to 200 days as the country prepares for its long-term goal of sending humans to the natural satellite.

Trump Warns Massive Deficits and US Job Losses ahead of Meeting with Xi Jinping

US President Donald Trump announced that his scheduled meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping will be difficult. The president said that the U.S could no longer afford massive trade deficits and job losses. The meeting is scheduled on Friday, next week at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

As per the White House announcement on Thursday, first lady Melania Trump would also join along with Xi’s wife, Peng Liyuan. Reports say that the meeting agenda is to have a strong economic and commercial nature. The President has blamed China for the US trade deficit and job losses during his campaign. Now, Trump is following the trend that he promised to change.

Earlier, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said that “40 per cent of China’s trade surplus with the United States came from US companies in China.” Also, he argued that the bilateral trade has created 2.6 million jobs in the US.

China to develop Air-craft launched Rockets: All you need to know

Latest reports suggest that China is going to develop a new generation of rockets that can be launched from Aeroplanes. The Dragon country is currently aiming to send hundreds of satellites into space for different purposes like military, commercial and science.

Li Tongyu, the head of rocket development at the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology said that they had designed a solid-fuel rocket that could carry a 100 kg (220 lb) payload into low Earth orbit. Now they are developing the Y-20 aircraft which can take off with heavy weights.

Delivery of the Y-20 to the Chinese Air Force began in July. It is China’s first domestically developed heavy-lift transport plane and has a maximum take-off weight of more than 200 metric tons and a maximum payload of about 66 tons, the Daily quoted aviation experts as saying.

Advantages of Aircraft Launched Satellites:

In comparison to the regular satellites, Air-launched rockets can quickly send up Earth observation satellites into the orbit and therefore can be more useful during disaster management.

Another added advantage of these satellites would be they will no need ground infrastructure, and they are more flexible than the existing satellites.Problems like bad weather can be eliminated using the aircraft launched satellites.
