India’s pride ISRO is all set to launch the heaviest rocket named Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark-III or GSLV MK III on Monday. It is carrying the 3,136 KG communication satellite GSAT-19. Earlier, Indian Space Research organisation had launched 3,404 Kg GSAT-18 communication satellite from Ariane, French Guiana. The countdown for the satellite is begun yesterday at 3:58 pm and was “progressing normally” and scientists were currently involved in the propellant filling operations of the GSLV MK III D1, officials said.

In past, India depends on the foreign countries for communication satellites which weighing more than 2,300 KG. GSLV MK III is the first ever heaviest rocket and satellite to be launched from the country. It has the capacity of lifting up to 4,000 kg into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) and 10,000 KG into the Low Earth Orbit.

This rocket weighing 640 tonnes and standing 43.43 metre tall, will blast off from the second launch pad at India’s rocket port at Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh, around 105 km from Chennai.
