Australia Announces Squads for South Africa Tests, Triangular Series

For South Africa tests, Australia has announced the team to get prepared for triangular series. In March, the tour will be headed towards South Africa. For test squad of Australia in South Africa, Jon Holland, the left arm spinner has been called again. However, Jhye Richardson, the fast bowler, has been called for the first time to play these tests.

On Monday, Cricket Australia addressed the media saying that to get completely prepared for the tour, the entire test squad of Captain Steve Smith will miss out the triangular series of Twenty20, which has been scheduled in the next month against New Zealand and England.

Just two additions have been made to the Australian squad. The first is Richardson, who has played against England in the very first game of one-day series and two games of Twenty20 Internationals. And, the second one is Holland in the squad behind Nathan Lyon; he is the second spinner. In the year 2016, Holland had played two Tests in Sri Lanka.

In a statement, Trevor Hohns, the chairman said that Jon is an outstanding player, who has played lavishly in the last matches. During the last season, in Sheffield Shield, he was a second wicket-taker and in this season too, his performance was A-1. He further said that if they get a specialist spinner then they will not need two spinners. He has a special belief in Jon.

This series held in South Africa holds utmost importance for the Australian team. It’s a golden chance for them to prove their capabilities away from home and make a peerless record in it. The preparations are on the crest and players are making themselves completely capable of this challenge. In South Africa, the tri-series will happen from 3 to 21 Feb. On Feb. 15, the Australian squad will leave for South Africa. There are lots of expectations from Captain David. He has showcased excellent leadership skills till now and hopefully, the team will give flabbergasting performance under his captaincy.

Maxwell wants team to Create Doubt in Kohli’s technique

All-rounder Glenn Maxwell on Wednesday suggested that the best way to tackle the onslaught from India skipper Virat Kohli during the four-match Test cricket rubber will be to “trigger a doubt” in the Delhi batsman’s technique.

The 28-year-old Kohli has hit a purple patch, becoming the only batsman in the game to score double tons in four consecutive series, giving sleepless nights to the Australians ahead of the first Test, starting February 23 in Pune.

Maxwell feels that the India right-hander is on top of his game at the moment and the best way to get him is by shattering his confidence with a silly run-out or an unfortunate dismissal.

“I don’t think it’s anything particular as far as technique or anything like that, I just think he’s so on top of his game at the moment,” Maxwell was quoted. “Guys can go through a run of form like that where they just get on a roll and everything seems to click for them, and that’s happened for him at the moment.”

“The thing with that is it can take only one bit of bad luck or an unfortunate dismissal where he’s run out or something, and that can sometimes trigger a little bit of indecision or doubt.”

“So hopefully in the first couple of Tests we can create that doubt and get him wondering about his technique,” he added.

Hailing Kohli’s level of consistency, Maxwell also said that “We’ve obviously been watching him play over the last few months and just admired the way that he’s gone about it.”

“He’s been extremely consistent and he’s gone on to score big hundreds, which is something he didn’t do very much in the early part of his career but now he’s making big double-hundreds and really winning the game for India,” he added.

Australia Follows India to Restrict Black Money, May ban $100 notes

Government of India bold move on the ban of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes to catch black money holders and reduce terror funds had made a huge impact on Australia. Following the same strategy of India, Australia Government is also looking to ban $ 100 notes to crackdown black money. Moreover, ban on cash payments beyond a certain limit is also under consideration.

The Prime Minster of Australia Malcolm Turnbull has decided to set up a special task force to be headed by former KPMG global chairman Michael Andrew. The Government will review experience of France where Government is banning cash payments of over AU$1,400.

“There is nothing wrong with cash, the issue is when people don’t declare it. The whole point of this crackdown on the black money is to make sure we close down any possible dodges,” said financial services minister Kelly O’Dwyer.

She said, “The black money that goes oral amounts 1.5 percent of GDP ($21 billion).  If we can get a percentage of that, it’s revenue unsettled to the Australian people. It is very critical for those people who are honest, decent people who are actually doing the right thing and paying their share of tax.”

On being asked about ban of $100 notes, Kelly said “I am not going to put a limit on what taskforce can look at.”

As per reports, currently nearly 300 million $100 notes are in rotation in Australia. The circulation of $100 notes have increased by more than 100 percent in over 20 years and 9 percent in the past year. While the long-term growth rate of $100 notes is 7 percent and it is 6 percent for $50 notes and 2 percent for $20 notes.

India’s Demonetisation status

As we know, on November 8, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi announced the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes which extents nearly 85 percent of the notes in rotation. The Govt of India under Modi decision announced the ban of high denomination notes without any prior intimation. He didn’t give any time to black money holders to find any other solutions to turn the cash.

However, the overnight ceasing of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes put the people in more troubles, especially the poor and middle class people. Most of the citizens in India accepted the bold move took by Modi and standing in long queues at ATMs, Banks to deposit or withdraw their money. Few people and opposition parties blamed the Government by the sudden demonetization.

Now, Australia will also follow same strategy what India did and the Reserve bank official Peter Mair has also suggested the ban of $100 notes, giving a use-by date so that public can hand them over within the specified period of time or else they get nothing in return. He also stated that $100 notes are used in bulk for illegal activities and to avoid tax.
