The government of India is planning to revise the criteria of age for the civil services entrance examinations which are widely considered as one of the prestigious in the country. Conducted by the UPSC exams(Union Public Services Commission). The exam are entry point for the Indian bureaucracy.
This includes IPS (Indian Police Service), IAS (Indian Administrative Service) and the IFS (Indian Foreign Service) and many other sector-specific positions. Current lower limit for age for appearing this prestigious exam is fixed at 21 years, and the upper age limit is 32 years for the candidates of General category. Now UPSC age reduction is fixed to 26 years from 32.

The age limit varies for caste-based reservation candidates. A committee appointed by UPSC has recommended the government to reduce the current upper age limit for the general category candidates. The committee urges to reduce the upper age limit to 26 from which the present is of 32 years.
It also proposed to make the change for the candidates appear for the exams like IAS and IPS in the next 5-7 years. Over the years, General category age limit has raised up from 24 to 32 years in the year 2014. So Upper age limit for UPSC exam is 32 years.

Appointed by Narendra Modi Government previous year, the committee was headed by former education secretary B S Baswan. The panel is assigned to change the system of civil services examination, which is one of the most exclusive and stringent nationwide.
The present age criteria of SC/ST reserved candidates with an upper limit of 37 years may remain same. However, the final call on reducing the age limit is yet to taken by the government.
