Reliance Jio has launched the Happy New Year offer which is valid up to March 31st, 2017. According to the TRAI norms, the latest voice and data offers does not valid any of the existing norms that require promotional offers to be limited to only 90 days

Recently TRAI has sent notices to Jio that their welcome offer ends on December 4th, 2016, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India said no free service should be provided after this date.

For this Notice Reliance Jio company replied they are providing new year offer for their customers, it is entirely different from the welcome offer. The company explained in detail that how the new offer cannot be termed as the extension of the promotional offer as it was completely different from the inaugural offer which had launched in the month of September.

This TRAI letter dated December 20 said in which the regulator asked the company why its happy new year should seen as the violation of the regulatory guidelines also why the offer of free service under the promotional scheme should not be considered as “predatory.”

TRAI Asks Reliance Jio, Why Happy New Year Offer is Different from Welcome Offer

JIO Happy New year offer is different from the welcome offer, while in welcome offer they are providing 4GB of free data whereas in this new year offer they are providing 1 GB data. It is believed to have multiple components, and if even a single expression is altered, it can be considered as the same offer or its extension.

In welcome offer after exceeding 4GB there is no option to renewal but in the new year offer company has given the facility to renewal the data. Regarding market dominance, at present Reliance Jio is 6% of the installations in the country whereas the Competition Commission of India (CCI) norms mentioned 30% threshold to trigger the ‘misuse of market dominance’ clause.
