Sachin Bansal, co-founder of the India’s biggest e-platforms Flipkart launches Billion made for India budget brand. The Online market leader Flipkart is going to be a part of Make-in –India trend. The name Billion is the initiative of Sachin Bansal, co-founder and Executive Chairman of Flipkart. Recently Flipkart-Snapdeal Merger didn’t go well due to some issues and this might be one of the reasons for the emerging of Billion.

Goods that range from electronics to clothing will be made from local manufacturers will be branded as private labelled products from Flipkart. Then the products are sold on the online market. Earlier Bansal produced Flipkart’s advertising business which is now growing upright for the e-commerce company.

According to Bansal, the main idea behind the brand is to offer products which are specially designed for Indian buyers. Bansal thinks that the Indian customers are not served better by most of the existing brands.

Commenting on the launch, Sachin Bansal, Co-Founder, and Executive Chairman, Flipkart, said, “ Flipkart is constantly innovating to deliver the best e-commerce experience for Indian customers, which includes access to quality products at affordable prices. Billion is our newest such innovation, offering products designed specifically for Indian shoppers. We have data-mined thousands of customer reviews to address the shortcomings of existing brands and used this knowledge to design products that address these need gaps.”

Why the name Billion ?

Talking about the name Billion, Bansal said that the name is pretty impressive among all the options we had. Billion stands for billions of aspirations for a billion people, is what we are trying to do. He also added we seek to understand the desires and needs of every India and create products to meet that need.

Billion will be the brand for all categories like Fashion, Home appliances, and other newer categories will be announced later. Flipkart relies on Digital Marketing for promoting the brand instead on spending much on mass advertising. Flipkart’s Big Billion Day sale is expected for mid-September, several merchants on the online marketplace said.
