Birth certificate not mandatory for Passport

No need of birth certificate DOB for applying passport, Aadhaar card, PAN Card among a host of documents can take as DOB proof.There is great news for people who don’t have the birth certificate but still, want passport can rejoice.

The Modi government had made PAN card and Aadhaar card enough for applying for Passport. There is no need to have the birth certificate as Date-Of-Birth proof. In the process of simplifying the passport rules for all the Indian Citizens, the Central government has informed Parliament to take away the necessary rule of Birth certificate for applying for the passport.

It is known that according to the Passport Rules, 1980, the applicants who are born on or after 26-01-2024 have to produce a birth certificate as the mandatory rule. Now people who want to apply for a passport can submit any of these, Transfer/Matriculation Certificate/ School leaving issued by any school or recognized educational board having the DOB of the applicant. PAN cards, Aadhaar card, driving license, Voter identity card and even LIC bonds can be a DOB proof.

No Need for Women to Change Surnames in the Passport After Marriage

This big move taken by the central government is to make passports readily available to millions of Indian citizens, said Modi government Minister VK Singh. As per new rules, online applicants need to provide only one name of parent or guardians, not both. This move helps single parent families. A 10 % discount will be given on passport fees for applicants over 60 and below 8 years of age.

The personal details will be printed in both Hindi and English on new passports. Orphan children only need to submit a document from their orphanage to confirm the date of birth. No need of divorce decrees or adoption certificate for applying for a passport.

The addition to the passport form has been reduced from 15 to 9, and they only need to be printed out on plain paper, and self-attested. No attestation is required which means married applicants don’t need to provide a marriage certificate, nor the name of spouse if they are divorced or separated.

Earlier, Modi government made for changing the date of birth in the passport easier changing existing rules. The government also made digitally signed marriage certificate valid for as the marriage proof.
