Aadhaar, PAN Card linking deadline nears: Check out Simple Steps to Link PAN & Aadhaar

After the demonization move by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi to curb black money, the government made it mandatory for all the citizens in India to link Aadhaar card number and Permanent Account Number (PAN). The linking is made compulsory to provide Aadhaar and PAN details while filing tax returns by August 31st.

The government has already extended the deadline twice, from July 31 to August 5, and then later to August 31.Now it seems that no further extension of the deadline will be possible. The Aadhaar-PAN linking is aimed at tax evaders who hold multiple PAN cards to escape tax paying. Now, the government can keep an eye on taxable transactions of a particular individual whose identity is verified by his Aadhaar cars. By linking, you no longer need to submit Income Tax acknowledgment to I-T department.

Birth certificate not mandatory for passport: Aadhaar, PAN Valid DOB proof

“The returns will not be processed until the linkage of Aadhaar with PAN is done,” Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has already said this.

The Supreme Court verdict on privacy as a fundamental right has triggered talk that it may have an implication on Aadhaar, and any adverse impact could affect the move to link PAN and Aadhaar. UIDAI CEO Ajay Bhushan, “taxpayers will have to link their PAN with Aadhaar by the stipulated deadline, which is 31st August, as the Supreme Court verdict on privacy has no bearing on the requirement.”

Recently, government deactivates 11.44 lakh PAN cards after identifying a huge number of fake PAN cards. As per government rules, a person should not have more than one PAN number. The government believes that the linking of Aadhaar and PAN is an effective anti-evasion measure to fight black money, corruption and will further help in streamlining the entire tax filing process.
