IPL Match Result: KXIP Triumph CSK by 4 Runs in a Thriller

Summary: Kings XI Punjab scored 197 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 7 wickets with Chris Gayle’s accelerated 63 runs in just 33 balls. Shardul Thakur and Imran Tahir of CSK took 2 wickets each. In response CSK were able to manage 193 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, falling 4 runs short of the runs needed to win.

Sunday night match of IPL 2018 couldn’t have been more entertaining with last two balls remaining and CSK needing 11 runs to win the match against KXIP. Chennai’s hopes were high as it was the captain cool Mahendra Singh Dhoni himself facing the ball. In the previous few overs Dhoni already created enough explosions to make the match a thriller. But the second last ball of the inning missed Dhoni’s bat and in the last ball Dhoni went for a big six, with the result being CSK losing by just 4 runs.

 

K L Rahul and Chris Gayle gave Kings XI Punjab the kind of start they needed with the former scoring 37 runs off 22 balls and the latter hitting his way to 63 runs in 33 balls. Mayank Agarwal (30 runs off 19 balls), Yuvraj Singh (20 runs off 13 balls) and Karun Nair (29 runs of 17 balls) also contributed to help their team reach a very competitive score of 197 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.

Chennai Super Kings started slow as they were struggling to get runs on the board until Ambati Rayudu started firing. But an unfortunate run out at 49 runs forced him to go back to the pavilion.

The hopes of CSK were still high as M S Dhoni was still on the crease. Dhoni was playing slow but opened up his bat to hit big sixes towards the end of the inning. To CSK’s bad luck despite losing just 5 wickets the team fell short of 4 runs and ended up on the losing side.

Delhi Daredevils Beat Mumbai Indians to Register their First Win in IPL 2018

Summary: Mumbai Indians scored a mammoth 194 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 7 wickets with SA Yadav (53 runs off 32 balls), E Lewis (48 runs off 28 balls) and Ishan Kishan (44 off 23 balls) firing from the top. TA boult, DT Christian and R Tewatia of Delhi Daredevils took 2 wickets each. In response, Delhi Daredevils chased down the total in 20 overs for the loss of just 3 wickets. JJ Roy (91 runs off 53 balls) and RR Pant (47 runs off 25 balls) took DD home.

The evening started on a good note for Delhi Daredevils when they won the toss and elected to field. But as the first inning progressed it was raining runs from the top order batsmen of Mumbai Indians.

Both the openers, SA Yadav and E Lewis fired and scored 53 runs and 48 runs respectively giving Mumbai Indians the kind of start they were looking for. Ishan Kishan, coming after the loss of first wicket also did his job well by scoring 44 runs of just 23 balls. By the end of the inning MI managed a very impressive score of 194 runs.

With a high score when Mumbai Indians came to field they were already the favourites for the day until JJ Roy, one of the openers of DD, started firing right from the word go. His blistering 91 runs off 53 balls structured the victory that DD were looking for. RR Pant also contributed handsomely scoring 47 runs and together these two batsmen ensured their team get their first victory of IPL 2018.

Mumbai Indians, despite a commendable performance in the first innings, could not create any magic with the ball and faced their third consecutive loss sending them straight to the last standing position amongst all the teams.

IPL Match Today: SRH Pulls Off Victory over MI on the Last Ball!

With a nail biting finish, SRH managed to pull off a dramatic victory by outsmarting Mumbai Indians on the last ball of the match.

MI put up a good show to score 148 in their first innings, and SRH did fairly well during the first half, but then they last wickets in quick successions towards the end, but finally they managed to pull off the victory on the last ball.

On the second last ball, they could have potentially lost the match, but instead of catch, it resulted in one run, and they had already avoided the possibility of losing the match, and we could have witnessed the first tie of 2018 IPL.

CSK vs KKR Today: Both Teams to Walk in With Confidence

Match number 5 of IPL 2018 is expected to be a pure feast for the fans, given both the ex IPL champions have already registered one victory each this season. With the obvious home ground advantage CSK would look to dominate the game from the word go but KKR with a pumped-up morale after their last victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore won’t come easy either.

Let us not forget CSK is back in the game after a ban of 2 years. The team is known for being fierce and this time they are hungrier than ever. Their last match against Mumbai Indians was a testimony that they won’t let go of anything and will be one of the top contenders for the title. CSK chased a decent target of 166 runs against MI in a nail-biting finish with Dwayne Bravo coming out as a clear hero, both with the bat and the ball.

Dinesh Karthik’s squad, full of talented old and newbies, will play to register their second consecutive win. Nitish Rana performed exceptionally well for KKR in the last match and Sunil Narine brought in some charisma too with his bat. The good part about KKR has been that the entire team is contributing while CSK survived mostly on the lone ranger of the night, Dwayne Bravo, in their last game.

On the whole the 5th clash of IPL 2018 should be an out and out entertainer if it doesn’t get eclipsed by the protests around the ongoing Cauvery water issue in Chennai. The IPL fans, especially those of CSK and KKR, will not like to see the match getting derailed due to a Political powerplay.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Convincingly Beat Rajasthan Royals

Summary: In their opening match in IPL 2018 Sunrisers Hyderabad registered a massive win of 9 wickets against Rajasthan Royals. RR managed to put a small total of 125/9 with Sanju Samson being the highest run scorer with 49 runs. Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to chase the total easily with Shikhar Dhawan’s knock of 77 runs.

The match number 4 of IPL 2018 saw Sunrisers Hyderabad winning the toss and deciding to field. With their balling game on top the hosts were able to restrict Rajasthan Royals to a meagre 125 at the loss of 9 wickets. In response SRH could chase down the total in just 15.5 overs with a massive 121 run partnership between Kane Williamson and Shikhar Dhawan.

Shikhar Dhawan was the clear hero of the evening as he remained unconquered scoring 77 runs off just 57 balls. The explosive inning included 13 fours and a six. On the other end giving him company was yet another hero of SRH, the captain Williamson himself, who also remained not out at 36 runs scored off 35 balls.

While the batting of SRH was top class, it won’t be wrong to say that it was their bowlers who almost won the game for them during the first inning itself by taking consistent wickets and restricting the opposition at just 125.

SRH clearly has one of the best bowling sides in this season of IPL 2018. Every bowler seemed to get a piece of Rajasthan Royals last night. Siddhart Kaul along with Shakib Al Hasan managed 2 wickets each while, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Billy Stanlake and the Afghan leg-spinner Rashid Khan bagged one wicket each.

With both teams, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad being ex IPL champions, this match was just the beginning and it is a long way to go before either of them truly shine the 10th season of IPL this year.
