Design and display:

The designing of the phone is slim, and the combination of metal and glass provides a great built. The design is identical to Blackberry DTEK50, despite the fact that TCL manufactures both. The rear panel of glass and the logo “Alcatel” are the significant visible changes if you compare to DTEK50. Vivo V5 Review: Is that just a ‘Perfect Selfie’ Show?

Alcatel Idol 4 VR experience:

Here comes the major part of our Alcatel Idol 4 review, you get a VR goggles with the device which is definitely not the one you get in the market. The VR headset is exclusively made for the Idol 4 device, and you cannot use it for any other phone. The headset has two buttons which work for ‘select’ and ‘back’ function. VR mode starts automatically once when you plug in the phone, which you can also switch this off in settings.

The image quality in the VR headset is great and the headset was quite comfortable to use. It also allows you to access content from your own gallery and from the LIttlstar app as well. Alcatel’s own VR store provides pre-loaded apps. The only flaw you notice while using the VR headset is it will get heat up while using for more than 15 minutes.

Alcatel Idol 4 features a 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and phase detection autofocus. The camera quality is good, and the focus and shutter speeds are fast. Images captured by the sensor are good in better lighting conditions. Photos captured in outdoor have natural colors and good details. Idol 4 camera provides you a good range of shooting modes like slo-mo, micro video and a full manual mode as well as panorama. Moreover, Alcatel has an integrated Fyuse app which allows capturing subject from multiple angles.

Another 8MP front facing camera with flash and a wide-angle lens is provided on the front of Alcatel Idol 4. Images taken from the front camera lacks detailing even in good lighting conditions. Nevertheless, the photos are great to share on you social media accounts. The set of cameras can record full HD videos and the camera department is acceptable if you are not a camera freak.

Lenovo P2 Review: Live more with the Giant Battery

The Alcatel Idol 4 is backed by a Non-removable Li-Ion 2610 mAh battery placed inside the rear panel. Though the battery capacity is low, the result is not so disappointing. The octa-core processor can also be accredited for extending battery life few more. Fortunately, Alcatel Idol 4 comes with Quick charge support which gains battery from 0 to 100 percent in two hours. The company claims the device provides a standby up to 520 hours on 3G data and 15 hours of talk time.

  • User Interface
  • VR support
  • Fast charging

  • Cameras
  • VR heating experience
  • Battery

Alcatel Idol 4 effectively manages to impress multimedia lovers with its VR and audio experience. But it also falls short in some areas as well. The design, user interface, VR performance and few such are undoubtedly great. The bundled VR goggles and the JBL earphones are a great value for money. Considering the camera performance and midrange CPU, the phone feels hard on price.

Despite offering the set of VR, Alcatel Idol 4 does not meet the likes of perfect budget price smartphone. The phone could have been perfect in one area at least in spite of overloading specs on the sheet. But still, if you are average user and have the zeal to enjoy multimedia, Alcatel Idol 4 is definitely one for you. If not, you have other options in the market like Oppo F1s, Vivo V5, Moto M or even Lenovo P2 in the same price range.
