Vijay Mallya Arrested: Liquor King Vijay Mallya arrested in London. He had been absconding and fled away to the United Kingdom in the year 2016. The Courts in India had declared him as the Loan Defaulter and proclaimed offender. The Indian law enforcement authorities along with the Scotland Yard arrested the absconding liquor baron.

Mallya was presented before the magistrate court in Westminister. The Indian Govt had been trying to bring back Vijay Mallya to India since many months. Modi Govt had earlier requested the UK Prime Minister Theresa May to extradite Mallya and also issued lookout notice against him.

Vijay Mallya has avoided several summon notices from Indian courts and haven’t appeared before them Intentionally. The Enforcement Directorate also attached Mallya’s properties in connection with a probe under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

In January 2017, a non-bailable warrant against Vijay Mallya issued by the CBI court on the charge of Rs 720-crore IDBI Bank loan default. Mallya’s Kingfisher Airlines owes more than Rs 9,000 crore to various banks.

Having being acquitted of several economic offenses including defaulting on loans worth crores of rupees Mallya is absconding and taking refuge in the UK.He is likely to be shifted to India at a later date. it is known that British government certified India’s request for extradition
