Indian Telecom operator Bharti Airtel has launched 4G VoLTE services in Mumbai today. With this roll out Airtel has become the second telecom operator after Jio to provide 4g Voice over LTE in the country.

VoLTE is a 4G LTE-enabled technology that enhances the clarity of voice calls using mobile Internet data. The leading telecom operator which has about 260 million customers has started rolling out VoLTE feature all over India. At present this feature is available to Airtel subscribers in Mumbai. Airtel’s VoLTE feature works on any speed whether it is 2G, 3G or 4G and user need not pay any extra charge.

On the Other Hand, Airtel’s counterpart Jio 4G VoLTE services works only on 4G data. The Mobile network which was launched last year, has took the Indian Telecom Industry to the next level. With its Free service Reliance Jio has acquired 100 million subscribers over the past year.

Abhay Savargaonkar, Director – Networks, Airtel said in a press statement that “Over the next few months, we will rapidly accelerate the deployment of VoLTE to cover all key geographies to bring HD quality calling to our customers. We keenly look forward to our device partners enabling Airtel VoLTE on their smartphones,”

Airtel customers will receive a web link via SMS which will initiate a software update that enables them to use 4G VoLTE service. It will use the 2G and 3G network to support services in areas where 4G VoLTE services are not available.

Bharti Airtel also stated that they had developed 4G Advanced Carrier Aggregation technology in Mumbai that enables data speeds of up to 135 Mbps by combining spectrum capacities in 2300MHz (TDD LTE) and 1800MHz (FDD LTE).
