Heavy Rains Trashed Bengaluru!

Heavy rains trashed Bengaluru last night. Rains associated with the thunder and lightning alarmed the pedestrians and the motorists. It seems that the meteorological department has predicted that it is going to rain for the next three days.

Around 10.30pm Saturday, a frond from a coconut palm in the compound of painter Satish A’s house fell during the rain. Satish went out to move the frond, unaware that a snapped live wire was entangled with it. He was electrocuted.

Squally winds, hailstorm, thunderstorm, and the rain hit Bengaluru on 9pm Sunday. The officials have witness that the 18 trees have been uprooted near Rajajinagar, Raj Bhavan, Jayanagar, Jayamahal, Kengeri, and Malleshwaram. An advertisement hoarding crashed near Trumpet intersection, affecting traffic.

As the situation became worst, water logging and traffic started piling up. There was hell lot of traffic jam on KIA road, Mekri Circle, and ambulances blared as they couldn’t move.  KIA asked travellers to use alternative roads to reach the airport. Many trees uprooted near Jayanagar causing lot of traffic and water logging. Motorists had to wait till the water drained.  Water logging of roads was reported from Basavanagudi.

There were power cuts noticed in Indiranagar, HSR Layout, Ashoknagar,     Shanti nagar, Kormangala, RR nagar, Cox town, and Hanumanthnagar.

Chief Minister HD. Kumarswamy and Deputy CM Parameshwara have given orders to their officials to take up relief measures. Saturday’s rain was not that heavy but the wind and thunderstorm lent in ferocious edge. The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre recorded 97.5mm at just one of its 90 stations across the city.

The department said the winds blowing from east touched a speed of 76kmph at 8.58pm Saturday and the winds from the north logged 52kmph around 9pm at HAL airport. Heavy rains are expected for the next 3 days. Ensure your back home early.
