Blue Whale game: Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad orders all social websites to remove the game link

On Wednesday, Union Electronics, and Information Technology Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad said Blue Whale game is annoying youth to commit suicide which is “completely unacceptable.”

The minister stated government would take severe action against social media who are providing Blue Whale game links. Since they ordered to remove the links immediately because it has allegedly led children to commit suicide in the country.

Mr. Prasad said “People are committing suicide due to Blue Whale game. Clear instructions have been issued to all the technology platforms that they must delink this game immediately because, under the Indian IT ecosystem, no initiative shall be permitted which provokes young boys to commit suicide. It is plainly unacceptable,”

On July 30th, 14 years boy Manpreet Singh Sahani walked off the fifth floor of the building in Mumbai in Sher-e-Punjab Colony. Manipuri minister son died from falling from the terrace in Delhi. It was suspected that he was driven due to Blue whale game.

“We received several complaints related to the Blue Whale game that it has been provoking youngsters to commit suicide. Clear instructions have been issued to all tech platforms to check the spread of the Blue Whale game,” Mr. Prasad said. Minister said “I appeal to all tech platforms to strictly abide by government instructions. Such a game is completely unacceptable,”

The government has administrated all technology media, including Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Yahoo to remove all links which direct users to the dangerous online game “The Blue Whale Challenge.”

Ministry also stated that “You are at this moment required to ensure that any such link of this deadly game in its name or any similar game is immediately removed from your platform,” Social Medias are yet to send a reply to the queries mailed to them by ministry order.

Government admits it’s hard to check objectionable content sent through Whatsapp

Indian Government had expressed their inability to monitor objectionable content sent using social messaging application Whatsapp. Due to the End-to-End Encryption, it is not possible for the third person to view messages sent through Whatsapp.

In Rajya Sabha,, Electronics and Information Technology Minister replied to a question asked by Congress member Raj Babbar. He answered that they are no route ways to check objectionable content on Whatsapp. Once content is reported government can take any action as it has laws in place.

Then the member again asked whether the government had the plan to stop sharing of objectionable videos through Whatsapp. Prasad answered laws dealing with transmitting offensive contents. He said the offensive videos which are uploaded using mobile phones and shared through Whatsapp had been seen, but he added end-to-end encryption for message can’t be seen to third party

“Instances of objectionable videos being uploaded through mobile phones and shared through WhatsApp have been noticed. According to WhatsApp, the messages are end-to-end encrypted, and they and any third party cannot read them. In other words, the messages are only seen by the sender and the receiver,” he said in the reply.

“WhatsApp provides a feature to report any objectionable content. However, they also admit that since they do not have the substance of the messages available to them, it limits their ability to take action. A user can take a screenshot of the content and share it with appropriate law enforcement authorities,” he added.

Minister said on IT act, 2000, makes minor changes in 2008, gives a punishment for publishing or transmitting objectionable content such as obscene material and sexually explicit. He said, “Concerned law enforcement agencies take necessary action for violation noticed or reported as per the law,”

Google CEO Sundar Pichai Announced Digital Unlocked India for SMBs

Taking his promise to reality, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has attended an event in Delhi on January 4 along with Google India head Rajan Anandan and Minister of Electronics and IT, Ravi Shankar Prasad. All the three people shared the dais and gave a valuable speech about how the digital tools are helping Indian businesses and industrialists.

Pichai met Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant last night where they talked about startups, interruption, digital payments, cricket, Bollywood and more. Amitabh Kant himself posted a tweet on his Twitter blog about what he discussed with Sundar Pichai when they met yesterday.

However, Sundar Pichai launched Digital Unlocked website, a new scheme to help SMBs in India, understanding of how online works and go digital. The online training gives and takes 90 training videos as well as eight-hour class room training Program along with FICCI.

Pichai at an event said, “When I was grown up in Chennai information was rare. But now, due to the vast increase of internet, everything changed, and I specially thanks to the internet. Building for everyone and making it available in the hands of as many people are at heart and, we do this by investing in open systems.”

Information and Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also attended at Google Event in Delhi. Prasad asked Google to take care of cyber-security issues and reinforce those areas as soon as possible.

During his speech, Pichai made Walnut app as an example to define the benefits of it after the demonetisation. He said Walnut saw a massive growth from 2 million to 5 million users.SMBS will need to register on the Digital Unlocked website. Google had a workshop going on for dealings at the event itself and plans to certify 100 businesses by the end of the day.

The big company Google has also initiated 5000 workshops in 40 cities across India. The new app called Primer will be available on ioS and Android in Hindi and English. Google has also mentioned another initiative which is GoogleMyBusiness. Yes, through this Small and Medium businesses are listed on Google, even if they don’t have own websites. The company says already 40,000 SMBs are listed on the search engine already. The GoogleMyBusiness App will also help businesses to create their own website based on the data in the listing.

Sundar Pichai to Host Meeting for SMBs in New Delhi on January 4

The special event for Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs) has already planned on January 4 in New Delhi. The special event will be hosted by Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Union IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. Apart from these, a few Google officials will also attend this special event and communicate with Small Business people.

At the special event, Sundar Pichai will concentrate on Google partnering with Indian small business to help them unlock exponential growth through the digital power and how digital will be more important for them. Previously Google said that India is a considered market for its Small and Medium Businesses and thrown the Google for Business Solution that allows small businesses to find customers online in their native place.

Government to Increase Broadband Speed From 512Kbps to 2Mbps

The Government of India is thinking to increase the minimum broad band speed which is currently 512 Kbps to 2Mbps. This would mark a four-fold increase in the internet speed.

In August 2015 government has doubled the broadband speed from 256 Kbps to 512 Kbps. Union Minister of Information Technology Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad said “I propose to take up the matter with the communications ministry.We will consider laying down a policy for increasing the minimum broadband speed from the current levels.”

The mushrooming start-up ecosystem, delivery of various consumer services via mobile apps, such as cabs, social media and online shopping, etc. are the reasons behind this move.
