IPL Match Result: Mumbai Indians beats Kolkata Knight Riders by massive 102 runs to be at Top 4

Summary: Third straight win for Mumbai Indians and two back to back wins against KKR. Anyone who watched 41st match of IPL 2018 between MI vs KKR would not believe that at one point they were struggling at the bottom of the table. It was indeed a pleasure for MI fans to watch them thrashing KKR by massive 102 runs in Eden Garden Kolkata. The hosts KKR won the toss and asked MI to bat first. MI lost 2 wickets by the end of 9 overs at 62 runs. The magic started when Ishan Kishan came to bat at number 4. Kishan scored 62 runs in just 21 balls hitting five 4s and six 6s, changed the entire game for MI. Rohit scored 36 whereas Cutting was caught by Chawla at 24 off 9 balls. MI ended the last over with 22 runs taking the total score to 210 for 6. Chawla took 3 wickets, but turned out to be expensive giving away 48 runs. Kolkata Knight Riders was all out for 108 in 18.1 overs. They lost 6 wickets in the first 10 overs. The highest scorer from KKR was Lynn and Rana with 21 runs each. Pandya brother took two wickets each for MI.

Going by the last 3 seasons of IPL, Mumbai Indians get to its original form when most of the people start feeling that they are out of the game. And this year is also no different. The skipper Sharma even said that May month works best in their favor and that’s how they have been winning back to back games. Wednesday match against KKR was a pure delight to watch for MI fans, specially the way its wicket-keeper Kishan thrashed away the KKR bowlers scoring 62 runs in just 21 balls being caught by Narine in the boundary in 15th over. However, MI did not stop there and the thrashing was continued by Hardik and Cutting with MI scoring 66 runs in last 32 balls after Ishan went back to pavilion. Except Narine and Russel, all other bowlers ended up with economy rate of more than 10, most expensive being Chawla and Yadav.

While chasing a target of 211, the KKR started on attacking mode, however the wickets kept on falling and no batsman could stay on the crease for long. Narine was out in the first over itself, while Lynn and Uthapa went back in 4th and 7th over. The target was so massive that they had no option but to hit the ball, which resulted in continuous fall of wickets. KKR was finally all out in 19th over scoring just 108 against a target of 211. MI bowlers also did a fantastic job with both Hardik and Krunal taking two wickets each whereas all other four bowlers claimed one wicket each. Ishan Kishan, undoubtedly was given Player of the Match trophy.

At the end of this game, both the teams interchanged their position in the points table. Mumbai now standing at 4th whereas KKR fell down to number 5, with both the teams having scored 10 points in 11 matches, however MI beating KKR in terms of NRR.

IPL Match Result: Mumbai Indians beats Kolkata Knight Riders by 13 runs

Summary: It was much needed second straight win for Mumbai Indians. With this they remain in the 5th position with 8 points whereas Kolkata Knight Riders remains in top 4 in the Points Table with 10 points. Mumbai Indians decided to bat first and its opener batsmen Suryakumar Yadav and Lewis contributed 91 runs partnership for the opening wicket. Yadav scored 59 off 39 balls whereas Lewis scored 43 off 28 balls. Hardik Pandya remained unbeaten at 35 off 20 balls. KKR’s Piyush Chawla turned out to be little expensive with 35 for 0 in 3 overs. Narine and Russel managed a couple of wickets each. While chasing a target of 182, KKR could manage just 168 for 6 in 20 overs. Uthapa and Rana scored 54 and 31 respectively. Despite KKR’s skipper Karthik remained unbeaten at 36, they could not pull off the match as Russel and Narine could not stay longer in the crease. Hardik Pandya bowled an excellent spell with 19 for 2 in 4 overs.

Mumbai Indians opening batsmen Suryakumar Yadav and Lewis had set the tone for their team scoring 91 runs in 9.2 overs. With 59 runs, this was Yadav’s fourth fifty in the tournament. Before, Lewis was caught by Chris Lynn in 10th overs, it seemed that MI would end up scoring close to 200, however the scoring slowed down a bit with Rohit Sharma and Yadav going back to pavilion in 12th and 15th over. However, Hardik Pandya’s 35 runs off 20 balls helped Mumbai Indians finish off the innings with 181 runs. Andrew Russel took two important wickets of Yadav and Lewis and ended his spell excellently with 12 for 2 in 2 overs.   

Chasing a total of 182 runs, KKR lost its opening batman Chris Lynn and Shubham Gill in 3rd and 4th over respectively. However Rana and Uthapa’s partnership took the team score to 112 in 12.3 overs when Uthapa was caught by Cutting. Uthapa was also lucky to have been dropped much early by Mayank Markande. Uthapa scored 54 off 35 balls with the help of six 4s and three 6s. Rana also could not stay much longer and went back in the next over. KKR’s skipper Dinesh Karthik tried harder to be on the winning side but was not supported much by the next line of batsman Russel and Narine. Finally KKR could end up with 168 for 6 in 20 overs. Hardik Pandya’s excellent batting towards the end along with superb bowling helped Mumbai Indians win this important match. Pandya was declared as the Player of the Match as well.

Although the position of both the teams remains same after the end of this match, with KKR and MI remaining at 4th and 5th number, MI’s hope of making it to qualifiers is inching closer.

IPL Match Result: Rajasthan Royals beats Mumbai Indians by 3 wickets in a thrilling match

Summary: Mumbai Indian won the toss and decided to bat first. Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan contributed 129 runs partnership off 82 deliveries whereby Yadav scored 72 off 47 balls and Kishan 58 off 42. Mumbai Indians were 130 for 2 in 14.2 overs and 159 for 7 in 18.5 overs, losing 5 wickets for 29 runs in just 27 balls. Jofra Archer from Rajasthan Royals took 3 wickets in his last over thereby ending his spell at 22 for 3 in 4 overs. Rajasthan Royals lost Tripathi and its skipper Rahane in first 5 overs, however Sanju Samson and Stokes played well contributing 52 and 40 runs respectively. However it was Krishnappa Gowtham who played a sensational inning of 33 off 11 balls hitting four 4s and two 6s taking Rajsthan Royals to its victory against Mumbai Indians.

What could have been a better thrilling match on a Sunday evening at Sawai Mansingh Stadum in Jaipur. The entire match was such a sensation that at no point it could have been guessed correctly who will end up winning the match. At the time when Yadav and Kishan were hitting RR bowlers, its seemed MI would be easily able to score 200 plus, but as luck would have been, the moment Kishan got caught by Butler in 15th over, the entire scenario changed over the next few overs. MI lost 5 wickets at just 29 runs in 4.3 overs losing all their hard hitters like Sharma and Pandya brothers. Jofra Archer bowled excellently his last over taking 3 wickets thereby ending his spell at 22 for 3 in 4 overs. Even Pollard could not do much by being at the crease unbeaten till last, scoring just 21 off 20 balls, as wickets kept falling on the other side. Mumbai Indians could manage just 167 for 7 in 20 overs.

Rajasthan Royals had a slow start scoring just 38 for 2 in 5.4 overs. However their star Batsmen Sanju Samson and Ben Stokes played well to take the score to 110 in 14.1 overs when Stokes was bowled by Hardik Pandya at 40. Sanju Samson was in good form but was caught by Hardik Pandya in the 17th over scoring 52 off 39 balls. 17th over seemed to be a game changer in favor of Mumbai when their star bowler Bumrah took away Samson and Buttler, giving away just 1 run. Start of 18th over was again a disaster for RR as they lost another wicket. But Gowtham changed the entire stats for RR, hitting 33 off 11 balls with the help of four 4s and two 6s. Rajasthan Royals needed 28 off 12 balls and Gowtham hit the winning shot in the 3rd last ball of the inning. Rajasthan Royals won by 3 wickets.

 

It was Mumbai Indians 5 loss out of 6 matches keeping them just ahead of Delhi Daredevils. Rajasthan Royals is at 5th position with 6 points in 6 matches.

IPL Match Result: Mumbai Indians Register Massive Win of 46 Runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore

Summary: Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and elected to field. Mumbai Indians put up a massive total of 213 runs at a loss of 6 wickets in the first inning. MI skipper Rohit Sharma accelerated 94 runs in just 52 balls whereas Evin Lewis scored 65 in 42 balls. Umesh Yadav and CJ Anderson took two wickets each for RCB. In response RCB could manage just 167 for 8 in 20 overs as no one except Kohli could score big for them. The RCB skipper managed an impressive 92 in 62 balls. Krunal Pandya took 3 wickets whereas Bumrah and McClenaghan managed 2 wickts each.

It was Mumbai Indians and skipper Rohit Sharma who stole the show on Tuesday night. Although RCB got to a dream start when their opening pacer Umesh Yadav picked up 2 wickets, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan, in the first two balls of the match. However, Rohit Sharma and Evin Lewis with their aggressive batting helped MI to score massive 213 runs. Lewis scored 65 runs with the help of 6 fours and 5 sixes whereas Rohit scored 94. Rohit’s 10 fours and 5 sixes helped MI to put up a great total of 213 against RCB.

Lewis departed in the 12th over whereas Rohit practically was there till the end of the match, being caught at the second last ball of the inning. Almost all the ballers of RCB were at the receiving end with majority of them ending up with ER of more than 10.

Chasing the huge total of 214 runs, RCB managed to score 40 in first 4 overs. However McClenaghan managed to pick up 2 important wickets in the 5th over, Knock and De Villiers. Kohli played brilliantly scoring a massive unbeaten 92 of 62 balls, but unfortunately no other batsman was able to stay in the crease for a long time. None of the batman apart from the skipper could score more than 20, thus limiting the run score by RCB to 167.

All the bowlers from Mumbai Indians could manage an economy rate of less than 8 except Rahman who proved to be expensive with no wickets. Krunal Pandya was impressive with 28-3.

With this win, Mumbai Indians registered their first win in IPL 2018 and ran up the points table at no 6 with 2 points.

Chennai Super Kings Trump Mumbai Indians in the Nail-biting IPL 2018 Opener

Summary: Dhoni won the toss and chose to field. Mumbai Indians, with a slow start, managed to put a respectable 165/4. Chennai Super Kings chased down the score with 169 runs in 19.5 overs at the loss of 9 wickets, thus winning the IPL 2018 opener.

There couldn’t have been a better beginning to IPL 2018 than the thriller that CSK vs MI was. Chennai Super Kings managed to clinch the 2018 Indian Premier League opener with Dwayne Bravo being the star of the night, both with the ball and the bat. Bravo blasted a very handsome 68 of just 30 balls, the inning that ignited the CSK chase.

Second hero from the CSK squad was Kedhar Jadhav who not only held his nerves all the way till the end but also was the man responsible for hitting the winning runs. In the last over CSK required 7 runs and had just 1 wicket in hand. Not succumbing to pressure, Jadhav hit a six of the fourth ball and followed it up with a stylish four to win the match.

In the first innings, Mumbai Indians began with a slow start and were struggling at 20 runs for the loss of 2 wickets with skipper, Rohit Sharma, also not able to do much and going back home at just 15 runs. It was the third wicket partnership of 78 runs between Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan, that brought in stability to MI innings. Towards the end of the first innings, the all rounder Krunal Pandya stole 41 runs just off 22 balls giving the defending champions a score that was worthwhile.
