Idea-Vodafone to build the cheapest Smartphone to take on Jio Phone

In a move to curb Jio Phone effect, Idea cellular-Vodafone duo has announced its plan to produce the cheapest smartphone ever. The Idea and Vodafone merge on cards and will be done soon, and now the duo is targeting its major rival jio phone with the cheapest smartphone in India.

The Aditya Birla Group led Idea confirmed that it has no plans to provide subsidy on handsets. The tradition of telecom operators working with handset makers started with Reliance Infocomm back in 2003. Post jio phone announcement, the feature phone segment is been eyed by the telecom operators. Also, they found the bundled handset plans are the best possible way to attract users.

“The practical solution that we are working on is to work with the handset industry and work with them to be able to bring down cost of handsets by bringing down the bill of material, so that the gap of the announced price of Jio feature phone versus a smart-phone can be brought down to reasonable levels,” says, Himanshu Kapania, Managing Director, Idea cellular.

Kapania claimed that the handset would be the cheapest smartphone in India under Rs.3000. It is believed that this Jio phones can disturb the segment larger volumes. Also, Kapania unveils that the affordable phone will allow the customers to choose between 2G and 4G networks. The company is working up on the features, OS, and display that can be bought down in the smartphone.

This new era of 4G feature phones will bring threat to both 2G phones users and handset makers. This brings the need for telecom operators to exercise on the needs of customers and distribution channels.

Recently announced Jio 4G feature phone is listed for Rs 1,500 which is a refundable deposit after a time span of 3 years. Also, Airtel has announced its move to launch 4G feature phone last week. Now, this Idea-Vodafone cheapest smartphone will add more value to the segment buyers.

Idea Cellular Data Jackpot Offer

As expected, soon after releasing the Reliance Jio Summer Surprise Offer its rivals has come with various offers to counter Jio in order to attract their subscribers. On Thursday, Idea Cellular announced the new promotional scheme for its postpaid customers with the name Data Jackpot.

Under the new promotional offer, the telecom network provides 10GB Data per month with a validity period of three months at a standard price of Rs. 100 per month. The Idea Postpaid offer is exclusively available on My Idea App. Users who opt for Data Jackpot will get a minimum of 1GB data and maximum of 10GB per month at Rs. 100.

Idea Unparalleled Offer to Provide 1GB data per day at Rs.300 per month

Subscribers who opt for the Data Jackpot can still also avail 1GB extra data per month even after three months. The company claims that the offer is available for subscription for a limited time and data benefits may vary state to state.

Currently, most of the telecom operators are releasing data offers and voice packs for their prepaid customers more than the prepaid subscribers. The idea introduced 1GB data per day prepaid pack for Rs. 300 last week. The data benefits will be valid for 4G handsets only. It also revised the Rs. 348 plan by offering unlimited local and STD calls and 1GB data per day for 28 days.

Reliance Jio to Announce New Set of Plans for Non-Prime Subscribers

Recently, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular gave free data up to 10GB for their postpaid customers for free. With the newly launched Idea Postpaid Offer the company may counter Reliance Jio Summer Surprise which is offering all 4G services for Rs. 303 upon subscription with Rs. 99.

Idea Unparalleled Offer to Provide 1GB data per day at Rs.300 per month

Reliance Jio is gearing up to attract more customers after the end of the Happy New Year offer. On the other hand, other players in the industry are challenging with similar attractive offers. Idea Cellular has come up with a new postpaid plan, idea unparalleled offer of Rs. 300.

This 4G exclusive plan is valid for a month and offers 1GB data each day. Yet, this plan is different from other postpaid plans as you have to avail it on existing postpaid plans. “The new Idea pack can be availed by all postpaid customers on Limited rental plans of Rs. 199 and above,” Idea said in a statement.

Idea Cellular rolls out Free Roaming Offer on Incoming Calls

New Rs. 300 plan is offered for free for all the postpaid customers on a rental of Rs. 499 plans and above. Idea base rental plans like Rs. 349 to Rs. 498 can avail the pack for a discounted rate of Rs. 50 only. The discounted price will only be applicable for the first three months of subscription.

“This is a first of its kind offer with such a huge benefit to a broad base of postpaid customers in India. The package has been designed to catalyze data usage amongst existing clients and to attract more postpaid customers to the Idea network,” says, Mr. Sashi Shankar, Chief Marketing Officer at Idea Cellular.

Idea Cellular has announced its merge with the Vodafone India in the recent past. Today, Idea again has confirmed that the telecoms will remain rivals until the merge happens.

Idea announces 1GB free Internet data per month for six months

Chinese mobile manufacturer Itel Mobiles has announced free 1GB of data per month for its users of idea network. The company has collaborated with Idea Cellular and offers free 1GB of data per month for up to six months. However, the offer is valid only on selected models of itel smartphones.

The offer models include models under Wish series; it1409, it1407, it1508, it1508+ and Power Pro series; it1516+. “With all aspects of our lives rapidly migrating onto a digital platform, internet connectivity has become a necessity instead of a luxury. The association with Idea Cellular, one of the most popular mobile networks with an extensive service outreach, is aimed at making digital connectivity more affordable and value-driven for both itel and Idea users,” says Sudhir Kumar, CEO at itel Mobile.

itel Mobile can avail the offer by visiting the http://i4all.ideacellular.com/offers from their idea smartphone. Idea offers free data for the first month, and users can avail 1GB free data per month for next six months. To get the benefits, users have to recharge of any value of Rs 50 or above each month.

The idea has slashed outgoing call rates and launched value packs for roaming outside India. This brings the costs down by up to 85 percent. Besides this, Idea has also decided to provide free incoming calls on national roaming effective from April 1.

Indian Telecom Network, Idea Cellular announced the latest offer of free incoming calls on domestic roaming and also launched international roaming packs. The company introduced the Free Roaming offer to counter on the Reliance Jio low price strategy.

A few weeks ago, Bharti Airtel announced its new offer of killing roaming charges for incoming and outgoing calls to get steady in the competition with Reliance Jio. In addition to this, the offer is also applicable to SMS and Data Packs within India.

“Effective April 1, 2017, Idea’s 200 million customers will enjoy free incoming calls while roaming on company’s 2G, 3G and 4G network across 400,000 towns and villages in the country. According to the reports, the reduced mobile data tariffs and Idea Data Packs available in the home circle will also be applicable in other states within India with Free Roaming facility. The Idea latest offer of free incoming calls on domestic roaming will provide for both prepaid and postpaid subscribers.

Airtel Offers Free Data for its Postpaid Customers Starting from Today

For international travellers, Idea Cellular is offering 400 outgoing minutes, 100 SMS per day, 3GB bundled data and unlimited incoming calls for Rs. 2,499 for Asia and Rs. 5,999 for Europe. This Idea Free Roaming offer comes with a validity period of 28 days and giving 85 percent savings on the International roaming charges.

The Chief Marketing Officer of Idea Cellular, Sashi Shankar, said: “Idea is now set to enable over 200 million customers to use their mobile phones freely, without having to worry about roaming charges, while they travel anywhere in the country.”
