In the Tuesday’s cabinet meeting held in Lucknow, the members decided to waive off the farmer loans worth Rs. 30,729 crores. After the meeting, the UP Minister Siddharth Nath Singh has given a brief to the media, regarding their decision to waive off loans to farmers.

In the past, the Chief Minister has received a list of Rs. 1.5 crores loan details that availed by the farmers. During the election campaign, the Bharathiya Janata Party has made many promises for the welfare of people in the state and waiving off the loans of small and marginal farmers was one among them.

Surya Pratap Shahi, the Minister for Agriculture, shared with media that as soon as the government won and came into power, they first prepared the list and took this decision in short period of the span.

The minister also said that the agriculture department is now focussing on setting up the wheat purchase centers to meet the target of nearly 80 lakh metric tons of wheat to get purchased from farmers.
