Aids Day

Every year we celebrate World AIDS Day on 1st December to raise public awareness among people. AIDS which stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome is caused by Human Immunodeficiency Syndrome infection. We started celebrating World AIDS Day from the year 1988 to support the people who are fighting with the HIV infection. On this day many NGO’s and governmental organisations organise events and campaigns all over the world to educate people on how to prevent and control AIDS. World AIDS Day Slogans are shared among volunteers.

World AIDS Day 2017 Theme is “Increasing Impact through Transparency, Accountability, and Partnerships.  The virus was identified in the year 1984, and it is identified as a pandemic disease caused due to the infection of HIV. Nearly 35.3 million people are suffering with HIV Positive around the world, and more than 2 million people still die in many parts of the world even though antiretroviral treatment is available.

HIV can be transmitted by three ways, contaminated blood transfusion, unprotected sexual contact and from an infected mother to child during delivery or breastfeeding, and exposure to contaminated body fluids. It is important to note that HIV infection is not transmitted if a person is exposed to tears, nasal secretion, faeces, sweat, sputum or urine unless contaminated blood is present. Any person infected with HIV infection may experience certain symptoms like influenza initially, and later the infection turns into a tumour. The infected person may experience sudden weight loss and if the infection proceeds then it is called Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. As we are celebrating World AIDS Day 2017 every year, it is a reminder for us that we have not conquered it till now. The Government must raise funds for the research and treatment of AIDS.
