Varuthini Ekadashi 2017

Varuthini Ekadashi is also known as Baruthani Ekadashi. On this day people do Varuthini Ekadashi Fasting for the whole day, so it is also called as a holy fasting day for Hindus. It celebrated on the ekadashi which is the 11th day of the Krishna Paksha, i.e., the dark fortnight of the moon during the month of Vaishakha as per the North Indian calendar. However, in the Southern states, people follow Amavasyant calendar, and the VaruthiniEkadashi celebrated in the month of Chaitra. According to the Gregorian calendar, the day falls mostly in the months of April/May. People believe that on this day God Vamana, who is known to be the fifth avatar of Lord Vishnu and worshipped with complete devotion by the Hindu people which are referred to as main Varuthini Ekadashi Significance about this day.

The word ‘varuthini’ means ‘protected or armoured’, in Hindi and so it is believed that a person who observes the Varuthini Ekadashivrat on this day will be protected from all the evils and blessed with good fortune and happiness. As per the religious faith, those who observe this Ekadashi they will gain name, happiness, fame and prosperity.

Same as all ekadashis, people who keep a strict fast on Varuthini Ekadashi without eating or drinking even water. One who observes a fast should have to eat only one meal the day that to before, on Dashami. On this day, people are prohibited from eating non-vegetarian and should avoid sexual activity and violence completely. The Varuthini Ekadashi 2017 is celebrated on 22nd April 2017.
