UGC Engineering Degrees

The University of Grants Commission UGC has suspended the Engineering Degrees of four deemed Universities which offers the degree through the distance mode. Based on Supreme Court’s order UGC has taken a prior decision to retrain the varsities from continuing any long-distance learning programmes from 2018-19.

JRN Rajasthan Vidyapeeth, Allahabad Agricultural Institute (AAI), Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE), and Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation, Tamil Nadu are not justified in introducing any new programmes or courses in Technical Education without the approval of All India Council for Technical Education.

UGC Secretary PK Thakur said that AICTE Regulations, do apply to deemed to be universities and the four varsities were not justified in introducing any new courses in Technical Education without the approval of AICTE.

The degrees awarded in Engineering by concerned deemed to be varsities stand suspended. AICTE has been directed by the top court to hold tests for the student’s whose degrees would stand suspended by 15th January 2018 he added.
Students are given only two chances to clear the varsity exams, if the student fails in the second attempt, he will not be given another chance. The format and date of exam will be released in next month by AICTE. Students have to register for the exam online, and the exam would be on GATE or Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering.
