New Delhi: UGC (University Grants Commission) approved more than 35000 journals recently. Promotion or direct recruitment of the teachers will base on the research work published by them in the journals.
Not only the teachers but also other stakeholders kept demanding the notified journals to set a benchmark in higher education for the research work and the related activities.
So the UGC finally released the list of the approved journals which are more than 35000 and the research work published in them would serve the purpose of promotions of recruitments of new teachers and also for Career Advancement Scheme(CAS). An official said that the list of the journals is found on the UGC website as the stored them in a web-based database.
Approved journals will be in the web of Science Scopus and Indian citation index. The journals are divided into three categories: Science, Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities.
Jaspal Sandhu, UGC Secretary, addressing the vice-chancellors of all universities said that though the list of journals got finalized, Universities hold the rights to include additionally reviewed journals that are not currently on the list by University level academic journal expert committee. So for the further inclusions of journals, the universities have to send them before May 15.
The Recruitment of the teachers and other staff members will depend on the rules of UGC (Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and other Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges and Measures for the Maintenance of Standards in Higher Education) (4th Amendment), Regulations, 2016.
