The Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu to present National Awards to Teachers 2016 to Creditable teachers working in Primary, Middle, and Secondary schools on the occasion of Teachers Day at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. The National Awards are presented every year to give public recognition to teachers working for primary, middle, and secondary schools by the President of India on 5th September.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development Government of India already released the list of teachers to be awarded from all states. The award presented has a Medal, Certificate, and reward of Rs 50,000.
National Awards for teachers has been introduced since 1958. The awards are presented to each State/Union Territory/ Organization depending on allocated quota based on the number of teachers. As a whole, there are 374 awards, out of which 20 awards are reserved for Arabic, Persian, and Sanskrit teachers.
Besides government teachers, the scheme also covers teachers affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), Sainik School, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Central Tibetan School Administration (CTSA) and schools run by Atomic Energy Education Society.Special Awards have been introduced for teachers promoting Inclusive Education in schools and the education of children with disabilities in regular schools.

The total number 43 Special Awards are presented to teachers with disabilities working in mainstream schools. Individual teacher or trained general teachers who have done tremendous work for Inclusive Education will be honoured with Special Award.
