AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu mentioned a scheme called Pradhana Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)-NTR Nagar Scheme. Under this scheme the government would construct 1.93 lakh houses for the houseless poor. CM said that the government will also initiate stringent action against officials and agencies that neglecting the urban housing projects meant for the poor.
The CM of Andhra Pradesh during the launch of Urban Housing Scheme said that foundation stone was laid for the construction of 1.20 lakh houses for the poor under this scheme in 38 cities and town in the state.
The 1, 930, 00 houses construct under this scheme will be in urban areas across the state, of which, 41,000 would be independent houses. This project will cost nearly Rs 11,530 crore. Mr. Naidu said that 1, 20,106 houses were sanctioned under Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) in 38 urban areas. There may be two lakh houses in urban areas by 2022, mentioned CM.
The CM made it clear that there is no compromise in the quality of the houses and the government had taken cue from Japan and Singapore for the construction of houses for the poor. He also said that 1,830 crore would be used for development of exterior infrastructure at the housing colonies.
The colonies would be named ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)-NTR Nagar’ and L&T, Shapoorji Pallonji were taking up this project. Mr. Naidu alleged that the earlier governments misused nearly Rs 4,000 crore in housing projects and used cheap construction material. He said that more than 8,000 houses were either reconstructed or repaired because the quality was not maintained which put them in bad state.
Union Urban Development and I&B minister M Venkaiah Naidu addressing the program through Video Link from New Delhi and said that the central will fulfil the wish of own a house of houseless poor and also promises to decrease the interest rates on housing loans.
