The Human Resource Development Minister, Prakash Javadekar will announce the India Rankings 2017 of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) today at New Delhi through a press conference. NIRF was launched on 29th September 2015 which was approved by MHRD.

Last year it started the framework outlines for the methodology to rank institutions and universities across the country. NIRF 2017 was the first edition which is going to announce by National Institutional Ranking Framework. The methodology draws all the overall recommendations to identify the board parameters to rank various institutions and universities in the country.

The parameters to rank include Research and Professional Practices, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach & Inclusivity and Teaching, Perception, Learning and Resources. As per ranks announced by the NIRF in the year 2016, IIT Madras has bagged the first position in the top 10 IITs list.

For the management institutions, the top ranks were occupied by the IIM Bangalore, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Calcutta and IIM Lucknow. In the rank list, the private college International Management Institute, New Delhi occupied the rank 7 in the top management institutes.

In the top universities list, IISc Bangalore ranked the number one position. Hyderabad University and Jawaharlal Nehru have also topped the list of top 10 central varsities.

“For the 2017 rankings, the main parameters have remained the same. However, there are a few important changes in a few sub-parameters. Also, this year every large institution will be given a common overall rank as well as a discipline-specific rank as applicable,” a senior HRD official said.
