Indian Mythological TV Serials are a Big Hit in China and Japan

Though India and China relations are not good in terms of politics, our Indian TV serials, especially the mythological dramas like Nagin, Devon Ke Dev Mahadev and Mahabharat are a big hit there. Chinese are huge fans of these TV serials.

Yang Buhui, who is 29 years old, shared with state-run Global Times that Indian mythology is fascinating and introduced a new world to me. Yang is the head of a volunteer group there which provides subtitles for Indian TV serials. Her favorite show is Devon Ke Dev Mahadev, and it premiered in 2011 and completed 820 episodes. Though Indian TV dramas are new to the Chinese, they have been getting a huge response from them.

She stated that she has fallen in love with those shows and Indian mythology. Though, she didn’t feel the lead actors in the serials looks good, but love their acting.

The Chinese are a diehard fans of dramas belong to US, South Korea, the UK and Japan, but our Indian TV serials are quite popular among them. As most of them didn’t understand English, they have started subtitling them in their language since 2015.

Another lady Qing Qing, who is 35 years of age she loves to watch the Hindi language episodes which don’t have Chinese subtitles. “I love the evil characters, and I found them adorable. Though they are not good, you can’t hate them. Indian actors look more masculine, mature and sweet.”
