On Sunday Joint Admission board (JAB) decided that the IIT JEE Advanced Exam entrance test for all IITs will be conducted completely through online for 2018. The decision was made with the aim to make logistics and evaluations much easier.
The decision was taken by the Joint Admission board in Chennai meeting. JAB has every right to make policies on IITs board. For the online process, as usually students will take up the exam at the appointed centers. But exam will be conducted through the computer, instead of written test.
Presently students are given with OMR sheets and are asked to fill the sheets with pen or pencil and marks are evaluated by machines.
IIT-Madras, Director, and Chairman of JAB 2017, Prof Bhaskar Ramamurthi said, “It has been decided that the JEE (Advanced) will be conducted in online mode from 2018 onwards. Further information regarding the examination will be provided by the JAB in due course.”
Earlier ministry of Human Resource Development had introduced the online process for JEE main. The Joint entrance exam is an admission to engineering courses offered all over the country. The students who are qualified in JEE advance will get admissions in IIT’s and NIIT’s.
A member of JAB committee said “This was already being debated over last many years. It is good that it would start from next year,” “The concept was being discussed for many years, but it was necessary to have adequate infrastructure to conduct the exam online,” the member added.
The students writing JEE advance 2017 was increased by 20,000 when compared to 2016. Due to increases in IIT seats, the no of students for writing the test is also increasing gradually. In 2015 eligible students who write the test was 1.5 lakh and in 2016 it was 2lakh. So to make more easier JAB had decided to conduct exam through online.
