Facebook is upgrading its messenger app with a virtual assistant to Android and iOS users in the US. Facebook M is an artificial intelligence-powered assistant which suggest things for users in conversation. This includes sharing your location with a friend to meet up, sending stickers, sending money to friends or hailing a ride.
Facebook M gets smarter when some users it’s more and suggests as per the conversations. If one ignores it routinely, it will stop suggesting them. Facebook claims that your private messages can sound creepy while having a virtual assistant monitor. Facebook M was unveiled back in 2015, and it’s been in testing stage till now with a small percentage of Messenger users.
Facebook messenger M will pop up suggestions in helpful actions in the chat window. The move aims against digital assistant services from Amazon, Google, Microsoft which. Besides these, Apple’ Siri and Samsung’s Bixby are also considered as rivals for M.
“M uses artificial intelligence and suggests relevant actions to help manage conversations or help get things done. We are bringing the power of M’s AI technology to support and enhance the Messenger experience and make it more useful, personal and seamless,” says, Facebook product managers Laurent Landowski and Kemal El Moujahid.
Presently, M is rolled out in the US and users across the globe will avail this option soon. Facebook claims that this is just beginning of M and users can expect more AI-powered experiences improving Messenger.
Facebook is also planning to launch a resource to spot fake news and misleading information on its platform. The resource is similar to previous efforts around privacy and security.
