A huge blow to Sasikala again, this time from the ECI. The Election Commission of India has allotted the “two leaves” election symbol to the ruling AIADMK faction lead by Chief Minister K. Palaniswami. A visibly pleased Chief Minister has announced the news to the media and party supporters.
Palaniswami said that “We have got the symbol only now. We will decide on the candidate for R.K. Nagar Assembly constituency after discussing with party leaders,” told the media here.
He added that “The Election Commission has given a just decision. We are happy, and the party’s 1.5 crore members will be happy. We have a majority of officer bearers, MLAs, and MPs (with us).” It is known that political scenario in Tamil Nadu has changed after the sudden demise of Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.
AIDMK has split into two factions headed by Panner Selvam and Vk Sasikala. At First Former CM and present Deputy Chief Minister, O. Panneerselvam has separated with V.K Sasikala. After Sasikala was sentenced to prison and dramatic twists Palaniswami sworn as the CM with the backing of Panneerselvam.
The two factions also started sidelining Sasikala lead AIADMK group and her nephew T.T.V. Dinakaran. Later, the Panneerselvam and Palaniswami factions merged, annulled the appointment of Sasikala as the party General Secretary and struck down the appointments made by her before she went to jail for corruption.
By then, however, the Election Commission had frozen the hugely popular “two leaves” symbol of the AIADMK, triggering a legal battle for it.
