Supreme Court has made it clear to increase the Cauvery water share to Karnataka by 14.75 TMC, to provide more drinking water to the Bangalore City.
Keeping in view that there is an increased demand of drinking water in Bangalore city, and the need has been constantly on the rise for industrial activities, Supreme court has taken this decision.
Mr. Mohan V Katarki said that he was happy with the verdict, as it protects the interests of both the states.
This Judgement would ensure peace in both the states, and also added that Karnataka Government would take appropriate steps to release water to Tamil Nadu.
On the other hand, DMK party has slammed the AIDMK party for not handling the issue properly, and they expressed their grief for Supreme court’s verdict not turning in favour of Tamil Nadu. DMK party members said the chief Minister E.Palaniswamy must resign for his inability to handle this issue.
Navneeth Krishnan, counsel for TN state said that TN government would study the judgement and take appropriate steps. He also added that he respects law and believes that government is capable of handling this situation.
But, he said that he was disappointed with SC’s decision of reduction of water to the state. As of now, there have been no protests in either states so far, and situation looks peaceful. Hopefully, it’d continue to be the same till the end of the day, and we don’t get to see any riots or unfortunate incidents anywhere.
