After companies like Samsung, FlexPai and Huawei announced their new launch of a foldable phone for their customers, iPhone now also joins the race by showing some interest in the folding phone trend. Further, the US patent office has proved the rumour by publishing the patent.
The company already had patents along with the blueprints of a bendable phone nearly half as efficient as the Samsung Galaxy’s Fold. It even received its first patent in 2014 according to Trademark Office and United States Patent. In 2019, Apple reportedly got a registration for an extended design in which the phone can fold inside out.
But, it is not going to be a simple, foldable phone. The company plans to take this venture a step ahead by allowing for wraparound the display in different shapes. If it’s getting difficult for you to imagine this wonderful piece, industrial designer Roy Gilsing has shared some pretty renders in Foldable.news.
However, there are certain issues which the company needs to focus on immediately and eliminate them as soon as possible. Firstly, it is Apple’s screen problem. You may know that Apple depends on Samsung for its OLED screens for the new iPhone mobile products. But, according to Goldman Sachs analyst, Samsung currently is no mood to share its foldable technology with its rival company. To resolve this issue, Apple has now signed up with LG for its screen requirement, which is also a leading experimenter with foldable screen feature.
Secondly, most of the gadget companies are using the same kind of polymer for covering the screens. But, since Apple has a long-standing relationship with Corning for its glass screen, therefore it still needs to figure out the solution to this problem.
Having said that, we cannot expect the product in 2019 and even 2020 seems like a short duration with so many limitations. Therefore, the company might be a little late, but it will definitely not be bad. In the meantime, let’s enjoy the other company’s foldable technology to have a clear analysis of the performance.
