Alibaba affiliate Ant Financial developed a unique service Smile to Pay for the use of the company’s Alipay Wallet. Alipay is a online payment service similar to Apple Pay. The service called Smile to Pay; a facial recognition service is launched in Hangzhou district, China. Smile to Pay service has debuted at KFCs new, healthy food concept called KPRO in Hangzhou.
Now Alipay users need not worry about security or forget passwords for online payments, their payments are done through a combination of facial scanning and inputting mobile numbers. Ant Financial said the Smile to Pay technology has reached a new level of accuracy and security that should put Alipay users at ease.
Alibaba CEO Jack Ma launched the new face recognition tool for mobile payments during his keynote speech at the CeBIT tech trade fair in March. According to Ma, Smile to Pay would first be rolled out in China and then in other countries.
Ant Financial earlier posted a video where the payment process doesn’t require any smartphone, assuming that the customer has already signed up for the Alipay app and enabled facial recognition. The company added, “We are excited to introduce Smile to Pay service to clients and look forward to seeing it play a significant role in digital financial services.”
The Alibaba Group had launched a cashless store earlier this year, with the aim to revolutionize offline retail spaces through new technology. The new retail concept is being launched through Alibaba’s experimental cashless store called as Tao Café at Taobao Maker Festival 2017, Hangzhou.
