Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) announced that Aadhaar Card is mandatory for its senior citizens and Members of the organization which they have applied for it till month-end to endure the beneficiary of its social security schemes.
The Organization’s central provident fund commissioner V P Joy said, “We will observe the situation by month-end and we may give more time to the retirement fund body’s members and as well as seniors to provide the 12 digit Aadhaar number.”
The provident Fund Body organization has asked its 120 field officers to make a big publicity to the scheme through media as well as individually through employers to create responsiveness among members and retirees about providing Aadhaar as their identification.
Labour Ministry said in a statement that, “Members and pensioners of the Employees’ Pension Scheme keen of continuing to gain pension and membership to Employees Pension Scheme are hereby required to provide proof of tenure of Aadhaar number or undergo Aadhaar authentication as per the procedure put down by the EPFO.”
The center contributes 1.16% of the basic wages as backing to every member’s Employees’ Pension Scheme Account in addition to 8.33% deposited by their workers every month. Since the Government offers funding to an EPFO member, it has appealed Section 7 of the Aadhaar Act 2016, for the purpose.
