Vodafone Sakhi Packs Allows Women to do Private Recharging Without Sharing Mobile Number

The British Multinational Telecommunications Company Vodafone has launched Vodafone Sakhi. It is a product to empower women in rural areas. The primary objective of this Vodafone Sakhi is, women can do private recharge using an OTP code, without sharing the mobile number. The generated OTP can be utilized for rechargers done over a 24 hour period. There is emergency calling feature which allows women to make calls for 10 minutes with zero balance.

Vodafone Sakhi is currently introduced in areas of Dehradun, Saharanpur & Firozabad in UP West and Uttarakhand. The pack pricing starts at Rs 52.

“Our studies show that women in rural areas face socio-economic challenges in accessing mobile services. They tend to follow a shared phone concept, as they are hesitant to share mobile number due to security concerns. They rely almost entirely on incoming calls and depend on their families for recharges,” Dilip Kumar Ganta, Business Head UP-West, and Uttarakhand, Vodafone India spoke about the launch of Vodafone Sakhi.

He also added, “Vodafone Sakhi have been designed especially to bridge the telecom needs of women in rural areas and address their barriers to access mobile services at will. We are very proud to introduce ‘Vodafone Sakhi’ a unique product aimed at empowering women across UP-West. We want the women to use mobile as a tool to empower themselves and optimize their efficacy.”

On Rs 52 pack, Vodafone offers Rs 42 talk time and 50MB of 2G/3G data and on Rs 78 pack it offers Rs 62 talk time along with 50MB of 2G/3G data. On recharging Rs 99 she/he can get Rs 79 talk time together with 50MB of 2G/3G data. As of Vodafone Launch Offer, it provides free health and beauty tips for 90 days. All Vodafone Sakhi packs come with 30 days validity.

Vodafone Decline in Revenue due to Note ban and Reliance Jio

Reliance Jio creates a hurricane in the telecom sector. Most of the famous telecom companies facing problems with increasing the popularity of Reliance Jio. The British multinational telecommunication company Vodafone is confronted with a decline in its India revenue at Rs 10,556 crore during October-December 2016. Vodafone recorded 4.7 per cent decline in India Revenue.

Demonetization and entry of Reliance Jio may be the reason for the Vodafone decline in India revenue. The Teleco company has reported the revenue of same period a year ago is Rs 11,077.63 crore. Nonetheless, the mentioned decline in euro for the period was 5.5 percent at 1,452 million euro compared to 1,536 million euro during the period under review.

 Vittorio Colao, Vodafone Group Chief Executive, said that “In AMAP (Africa, Middle East & Asia Pacific), our strong organic performance in South Africa and Turkey was partially offset by India, where the sector is affected by free services from the new entrant.”

He also added that intense competitive pressure is expected in India in the fourth quarter for which Vodafone is taking some serious actions like a series of commercial actions, including the extension of 4G services to 17 circles.

There was an unfavourable impact on prepaid top-up volumes during the quarter because of demonetization, said Vodafone.

“This drove a quarter-on-quarter decline in our active data customer base to 65 million (from 69.6 million in second quarter), mainly reflecting fewer 2G users. Our 3G and 4G customer base declined slightly quarter-on-quarter to 35 million, and smartphone penetration is 35 per cent,” Vodafone said.

The browsing revenue growth of Vodafone in India is slowed from 16% in second quarter of the current financial year to 0.6% in the third quarter due to the free services from the new entrant.

The average revenue of Vodafone decline per user is 10 percent to Rs 158 in the third quarter ended Dec 31, 2016, from Rs 174 a year ago. Overall the Vodafone revenue declined by 3.9 percent, 13,687 million euros from 14,247 million euros during the period under review.

The company made an announcement that the customers who are with new 4G handsets will provide with additional 9GB data along with same 1GB data. This Vodafone Rs. 348 offer is similar to the new pack introduced where the company offers 3GB of 4G data for 12 months with the new 4G handset.

Same as any other data offer, this extra 9GB data will be made available for usage 24X7. Earlier in the month of December 2016, Vodafone introduced the Rs. 348 unlimited calling offer and recently they limited the daily call limit to 300 minutes for any network.

Telecom operator Vodafone Red has unveiled the Vodafone Red plans with unlimited calls and data benefits for postpaid customers. To combat with the rising Reliance Jio, Vodafone Red had introduced four new plans in the recent past. And right now it comes with the two new plans.

The new Vodafone Red Postpaid plan includes Rs. 1,699 and Rs. 1,999. Customers can expect the unlimited calls on the home network including roaming which means free outgoing calls on roaming in Rs. 1,699 Red Postpaid plan. 100 text messages and 20GB of bundled 4G/3G date for 4G smartphone user in Rs. 1,699 plan. The Rs. 1,999 Vodafone Red Postpaid plan offers all the above-mentioned offers but with 24GB of bundled 4G/3G for a 4G smartphone user.

The New offers have been added to Rs. 499, Rs. 699, Rs. 999 and Rs. 1,299 plans which launched earlier. Vodafone offers unlimited local and national calls and 100 text messages to all the above plans. The telco offers 3GB of 3G/4G data for 4G handphone users for Vodafone Red Rs. 499 postpaid plan and 3G/4G data to 5GB for 4G smartphone users for Rs. 699 Vodafone Red postpaid plan.

These plans are currently not available in Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh, Telangana & Andhra Pradesh, Bihar & Jharkhand, Jammu & Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh circles.

As all the telecom services are in a race of introducing new offers to counter Reliance Jio, Vodafone also announcing new plans. The company unveiled new Vodafone SuperHour Offer which they are offering unlimited 3G/4G data on an hourly basis.

Vodafone commenced starting the new SuperHour scheme for prepaid users from today, i.e., 7th January. It is made available to the customers across all circles on 9th January, i.e., from Monday. Under this new Vodafone SuperHour offer, subscribers can enjoy unlimited data starting at just Rs. 16.

For voice calls, users require to recharge with new Rs. 7 to enjoy unlimited voice calls for one hour. The company also introduced a plan exclusively for 2G mobile users also. The 2G subscribers can enjoy SuperHour data scheme only for Rs. 5.

The Chief Commercial Officer of Vodafone India Sandeep Kataria, said, “We are breaking all shackles that concern customers in their use of the internet with SuperHour. You can use and download as much data as you like for one hour at a fixed, nominal price.”

The company also announced that through the Vodafone SuperHour Offer users can enjoy watching a variety of Videos and Movies on Vodafone Play app. Users have to note that the Vodafone Play subscription is free until 31st March 2017.

Furthermore, users can purchase SuperHour packs through digital channels as well as offline retail channels. Customers can recharge the Vodafone SuperHour Offer as many times a day.
