Government Introduced IVRS Platform to Tackle Call Drops

In a try to hold the Call Drop issues, the Indian Government has launched a new platform called Integrated Voice Response System (IVRS) at various locations including Delhi and Mumbai to get direct feedback from subscribers on call quality.

The feedback which has taken by the customers will be then shared with telecom operators, and by this, they can take necessary steps in the problem areas and address the call drop issues. The IVRS system will be soon extended to the many places in the country, said by the official.

“To get the feedback from subscribers, Department of Telecommunications (DOT) has launched an IVRS system in Delhi, Mumbai, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Goa and solved the problems of all drops.”

Recently, the Government has introduced emergency toll-free number 1955 for call drop issues, and subscribers will receive an IVRS call through 1955 shortcode if there are any call drop issues. The questions will be asked by the officials if they are facing call drops or not in their areas.

Not only the phone calls, but they also send a toll-free message to the same toll-free number 1955, containing the location of town/city/village, where they might be facing the problem of frequent call drops.

Responding to this creativity, Manoj Sinha, Communications Minister said, “The new initiative IVRS is a channel to get the direct feedback from the users, and this voice of the consumer can be used to improve services that are being offered to them.”

The IVRS system will be utilized for call drops, and consequently, it will extend to get the feedback services of consumers in other areas as well. DoT has taken a swing of initiatives to report the call drop issues on mobile networks. Telecom operators have set up more than 1,30,000 additional base transceiver stations or BTS across the country during the period from June 2016 to October 2016, and it is in the process of setting up more than 1,50,000 additional BTSs across the country by March 2017.

After holding a meeting with the heads of telecom operators last month, Sinha had promised that his ministry would launch a platform for customers to provide direct feedback on call drop issues. In a meeting, Sinha also warned telecom operators that his department wouldn’t vacillate on slapping penalty and other actions in case consumers continue to face the risk of call drops and call failures.

The Telecom Minister said , “The platform would run till consumers say that they are free of call drops.” So we have to appreciate the Indian Government for taking up this initiative to curb the call drop issue.

Government to Launch Toll Free Number 1995 for Taking Call Drop Issues

The government of India is planning to introduce a toll-free number “1955” for considering the problems of mobile users on call drops.

A government official said, “A toll-free number of 1955 has been allotted for IVRS system on Call Drop.” Provisioning of this figure will be compulsory for telecom operators, and it should be nearby for local and STD calling.

TRAI Launches the Mobile App for DND Services to Get Rid of Troublesome Calls

Department of Telecom has sent an open letter to the mobile network operators in last week of November. The 1955 number is for the outbound calls to the subscribers, the IVRS system will have to present a pre-defined CLI (Caller Line Identification) to the subscribers, through short code ‘1995’.”

State-owned telecom service provider Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has been focused on organizing this shortcode 1955. Mobile Communication operators won’t charge any integration, maintenance and operational fee from MTNL. Official sources said that Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha would inaugurate the service but didn’t reveal any more details about the project.

Asking about the plan to the industry body, Cellular Operators Association of India said that the industry has tried to find out further technical clarifications from DoT on routing, charges, etc. for the implementation of the short code 1995 for IVRS system.

Recently a meeting was held between all heads of telecom operators and telecom minister. Sinha said there is good progress in the improving connectivity. TRAI also reports call drop situation has improved. TRAI measurement is circle wise. But sometimes call drops will happen, and this is not covered in the report.

He also mentioned “We are forming a platform that will take direct feedback from the people on call drops. Soon we will complete that platform. In past telecoms has submitted a 100 days action plan on the strategy to solve call drop issue. They have committed a setting up of 60,000 base stations and one lakh base stations in a year.

Sinha said, “Till customers are fee of call drops I won’t satisfy”. The platform would ready in next month by that we can easily identify the problems. The operators have gone beyond the 60,000 BTS’ with 61,000 base stations being set up. This is however does not include the reliance jio number. At present have got 965 MHz spectrum.

C-Dot WiFi Technology Gets a Nod from Indian Railways

BSNL Unlimited Free Calls: Landline customers of government owned BSNL can make a free unlimited call to any network on Sundays.

“BSNL(Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited)  customers will be able to make unlimited free voice calling from the BSNL landline to any mobile and landline network in the country on August 15, and after that every Sunday,” said telecom minister Manoj Sinha.

According to sources the details of free calling plans will be released on August 15th. Currently, BSNL is offering free unlimited night calling to any network in the country between, 9 PM to 7 AM.

This service will be available for all BSNL landline customers, besides existing free calling scheme during night. “For new customers, we are now providing fixed line connection for a monthly rental starting at Rs 49 for the first six months. After that, the consumer can shift to plan of his/her choice. The lowest monthly rental is Rs 99,” said BSNL chairperson Anupam Shrivastava.

This move by BSNl is mainly to increase landline customers of the state-run company there by reducing the mobile bills. More over BSNL has the advantage of a user-friendly network for people of all age groups.
