Lenovo P2 Review: Live more with the Giant Battery

Midrange smartphones are the segment which most of the makers target in the market. Not all can invest a lot on a smartphone, picking the best in the price limit is the real challenge for buyers. And the question arises is, do we really need to compromise on the things according to the price? This New Year, Lenovo has launched P2 and so we are here up with the Lenovo P2 review.

After the launch of Lenovo K6 Power and Lenovo K6 Note last year, Lenovo kick starts this year with the P2. Interestingly, Lenovo bagged the second best selling brand in the Indian with Motorola together. Unveiled first at IFA last year, Lenovo P2 came to India within four months of its launch in other countries. Dig into the Lenovo P2 review and know what specs and features are all about.

Design:

Though there is nothing new concerning design, Lenovo P2 features an all-metal body. The built quality is excellent with the aluminum material, and overall polish gives you a premium feel. The bezel length is a bit high with reduces the screen to size ratio. The bottom chin packs a physical home button with a fingerprint sensor integrated into it.

On the right edge, you’ll find the power button and volume rocker keys as usual. The hybrid SIM tray of dual Nano-SIMs is adjusted on the left edge. Another power-saving key is also provided on the left edge to switch Power Saver mode. The Micro-USB port and speaker grilles positioning is on the bottom edge.

On the top, you only observe a 3.5mm audio jack, neither a secondary noise cancellation microphone at least. The rear panel of the Lenovo P2 is quite decent in look with simple camera sensor and dual-LED flash. Surprisingly, the device beats the tag ‘Made in India.’ Through the design is not so unique, the smartphone ensures a great premium feel. The smartphone is available in Champagne Gold and Graphite Grey colors. The 177 grams weight of the device is a bit high, and aluminum material is the factor behind it.

Moto M review: Performance focused Motorola with design

Display:

Lenovo P2 sports a 5.5-inch full-HD Super AMOLED display which is you don’t find in regular midrange smartphones. The display panel usually found in flagship models like Moto Z and OnePlus 3T, costs you more than 25k. The panel offers 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution at 401 ppi pixel density. The display is vibrant and offers great visibility in sunlight. Images are sharp and texts are pretty clear as well.

Above all the screen size of the device, suits best for the media consumption. Color reproduction is great and viewing angles are excellent. A 2.5D curved glass covers the display. Sadly, scratch protection like gorilla glass failed to make its presence. As a result, you need to be cautious all the time about the display else look for alternative protection. Choosing Super AMOLED display also results in better battery life as Lenovo claims the device packs best in range battery.

Lenovo P2 vs Lenovo P1 Comparison of Features, Specs and Performance

Specs Performance:

The Lenovo P2 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 clocked at 2GHz. You have the privilege to choose up on the 3GB or 4GB of RAM variant to couple with the processor. Adreno 506 GPU and Internal storage of 32GB is provided for both the versions. However, you can expand its storage by sacrificing a Nano SIM card. The SoC in Lenovo P2 helped in fixing heating issues found in Lenovo P1 with Snapdragon 615 processor. The processor at this price range is another highlight where you see this in Asus ZenFone 3 and Moto Z Play.

Multitasking and general app performances are great, and Lenovo P2 performs really well whatever you throw at it. The 5.5-inch full-HD display provides a great experience while watching videos and looking at photos. The phone work well even on 4G data, and downloads are pretty fast, though. The speaker position is a bit disturbing while watching videos but you don’t find any distortion even at higher volumes.

Other specifications include Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac/a/b/g/n, GPS/A-GPS NFC and FM radio. The phone supports 4G VoLTE on both the SIMs and you can make calls and downloads at higher speeds. Gaming experience is quite good as well, and you don’t’ find any issues while playing heaving games. Neither framed drops nor Heating problems occurs in the smartphone.

Benchmarks scores of Lenovo P2 are about 63,445 on AnTuTu, 40,634 overall in Quadrant, 8,098 in 3DMark Ice Storm Extreme and 23fps in GFXBench’s T-Rex test.

Lenovo K6 Power Review: Better than Xiaomi Redmi 3S?

Software:

The smartphone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Lenovo Vibe Pure UI on top. The software is same what we see in Lenovo K6 Power and K6 Note. Now, Lenovo P2 has got on-screen navigation keys which is quite interesting to see. You can customize the positioning of the on-screen buttons with the System button option in the settings. Many software features like Dual Apps mode, Secure Zone retained same on the P2.

Fingerprint sensor gestures are brilliant, single tap acts like a back button and a single press redirect to the home screen. Lenovo has cut down the bloatware Vibe Pure UI, still there are several preloaded third-party apps. You’ll be disappointed for not having gallery app as you have to access through a File Manager. Overall, the customization options, icons, settings are fine, and UI is really smooth.

Lenovo K6 Note Review: Display ‘Note’s the reason to choose over K6 Power

Camera:

Lenovo P2 sports a 13-megapixel camera with a Sony sensor and dual LED flash at the rear panel. The sensor is really quick at focusing as it has PDAF ability. Macros in well-lit situations are detailed while landscapes are about average. Images are in detail at its range, but you can’t escape noise at the corners of the image. Low light shots are decent with assisting light sources. Focusing on low light conditions is a bit tough task which you may complain in Lenovo P2 camera. Color reproduction is excellent and produces accurate colors in better lighting conditions.

Another 5MP camera on the front panel is fine if you expect simple selfies and video calls. Good light conditions help in getting the best out of the sensor, or it will turn dark. The camera app is quite easy to use and is the same one which u find in K6 Power and K6 Note. Many of the functions work well in the camera app with just a tap. Lenovo P2 records full-HD videos with excellent quality. Overall, the Lenovo P2 camera department is decent if camera is not the primary factor you consider buying.
