Karnataka Boys fought back for the King XI!

Kings XI Punjab met the Sunrisers Hyderabad at Mohali. The pitch was little dry, and would turn slow after the first power play. The toss was crucial at Mohali. Ravichandran Ashwin won the toss and elected to field first. Having said that, the big man! The big Jamaican Christopher Henry Gayle was back in the squad, which was the big plus point for the Kings XI. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad is supposed to be the best team for this season. Kane Williamson was missing in SRH’s squad. He was a great asset to the team, his absence costed SRH to lose?

Well, SRH was asked to put on the target on the board. Warny-Bairstow partnership dint go well. Bairstow was out-caught by Ashwin, which was delivered by Afhan-Leggie Mujeeb. The Duo bowled accurately stump-stump when it was actually necessary for their team. Vijay Shankar also couldn’t perform to his potential. David Warner was middling the ball well at the start of the innings and then in the later half his pace was cut down as the wickets kept falling at the other end. Middle Order department was at stakes! They could only manage to pull a decent target off 150 runs at the loss of 4 wickets with David Warner’s excellent innings.  

Asking-rate was up to 7.5rpo. Well for the batting line-up they have, it was a gettable target. Chris Gayle and KL Rahul opened the innings for the kings XI. The Jamaican started belting the seamers from the very first ball. Bhuvi and Sandeep were really good with the new ball. Rashid Khan was introduced into the attack. It was a nice trick, played by the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad to pick Gayle’s wicket. Mayank Agarwal was the No.3 batsman for the Kings XI. Karnataka Boys made a 100-run partnership when it was needed for their team. They took the match till the end. The match went on till the last over. With the blistering spell of Sandeep and Bhuvi, 11 runs were required of last over. Lokesh Rahul made it for his team. He was awarded Man of the Match for his brutal innings of 71 runs off 53 balls.  

IPL Match Result: Kings XI Punjab ended up losing to Rajasthan Royals by 15 runs despite K L Rahul’s unbeaten 95

Summary: Rajasthan Royals won the toss and opted to bat first. Although they lost its skipper Rahane early, but as Butler was in great form they started off really well. Butler scored 82 off 58 balls with the help of nine 4s and one 6. However during the second half, the run rate started dropping significantly with RR reaching a total score of 158 for 8 in 20 overs. Andrew Tye was brilliant ending his spell with 34 for 4 in four overs. While chasing, KXIP started very slow as they lost 3 wickets by the end of 4th over. Their opener batsman K L Rahul was brilliant with unbeaten 95, however he also could not save the match for KXIP as no other batsman could support him on the crease. KXIP managed to reach 143 for 7, thereby losing by 15 runs to RR.

The match at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur was very crucial for the hosts as they were struggling at the bottom of the points table. RR started with attacking mode from the very beginning with Jos Butler taking the lead. However RR could manage just 158 for 8 in 20 overs, as the wicket started getting slow and they lost 6 wickets in the last 6 overs. Apart from Butler, no other RR batsman could contribute significantly to the total score. Andrew Tye from KXIP was brilliant with his spell taking 3 wickets in the last over, thus ending his spell with 34 for 4. Mujeeb maintained a very low economy rate finishing his spell at 21 for 2 in 4 overs.

While chasing a decent score of 159, the KXIP started off very slowly as they lost 3 early wickets. Their star Batsman Chris Gayle had to go back in 3rd over scoring just 1 run in 1 ball. The skipper Ashwin and Nair followed Gayle in the 2nd and 4th over. The projected run rate kept on increasing with every over and they kept on losing wickets. However the only hope was K L Rahul, who showed extraordinarily patience and batted excellently well remaining unbeaten at 95. However, no other batman from KXIP could support K L Rahul, and as a result KXIP lost to RR by 15 runs. Gowtham kept the economy rate very low ending his spell with 12 for 2 in 3 overs. Jos Butler was declared as the Player of the Match.

 

At the end of this match, the hope of RR making it to qualifiers remains alive. RR now stands at 6th position with 8 points in 10 matches whereas KXIP remains in 3rd position with 12 points in 10 matches.

IPL Match Result: Kings XI Punjab beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 9 wickets (DLS Method)

Summary: KXIP won the toss and elected to field. KKR scored a decent total of 191 for 7 in 20 overs. Chris Lynn scored 74 runs off 41 balls whereas Uthapa and Karthik contributed 34 and 43 runs respectively. Barinder and Tye took two wickets each for KXIP. The opening pair of KXIP Lokesh Rahul and Chris Gayle started blasting KKR from start which helped the team score 96/0 in 8.2 overs when the game was interrupted due to rains. Rahul and Gayle scored 60 and 62 each respectively. The only wicket from KKR was taken by Sunil Narine. Due to rains, the KXIP were given a revised target of 125 in 13 overs which they achieved in 11.1 overs and won the match under DLS method.

The 18th match between KKR and KXIP held at Eden Garden, Kolkata on 21st April 18 was interrupted by rains and could not be completed. KXIP was declared the winner under DLS method. KKR batted well and were able to score a decent total of 191 runs for 7 wickets. After losing Narine in the second over, Chris Lynn and Uthapa got into the attacking mode and contributed 72 runs partnership for KKR. Chris Lynn scored 74 off just 41 balls with the help of 6 fours and 4 sixes. The skipper Karthik scored 43, but their star batmen Russel could not play longer, scoring just 10 runs. Rajpoot and Barinder from KXIP turned out to be comparatively expensive with ER>10, however Tye did a fantastic job at 30 for 2 in four overs.

It was the 3rd successful stint by Chris Gayle yesterday. It was again all about him when KXIP came to chase 192 against KKR. The opening pair Rahul and Gayle started on a complete attacking mode and scored 96 runs in just 8.2 overs when the play was stopped due to rains. However, when the game was resumed, KXIP were given a revised target of 125 in 13 overs which was easily achieved by them in just 11.1 overs. Gayle scored unbeaten 62 off 38 balls hitting 5 fours and 6 sixes. However Lokesh Rahul was in a different form altogether scoring 60 in just 27 balls hitting 9 fours and 2 sixes. He was also declared player of the match as well.

With this win, the KXIP is ruling the points table with 8 points in 5 matches. Their next match will be with Delhi daredevils on 23rd April in Delhi.

IPL Match Result: Sunrisers Hyderabad loses their first match in IPL 2018 against Kings XI Punjab by 15 runs

Summary: Kings XI Punjab won the toss and elected to bat first. They put up a target of 194 in front of Hyderabad, who could manage to add 178 for 4 in 20 overs. The highlight of the entire match was Chris Gayle who scored an unbeaten 104 off 63 balls, the first century of IPL 2018. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan and S Kaul from SRH took one wicket each. SRH’s skipper and Manish Pandey scored 54 and 57 runs respectively, adding 76 runs partnership for the 3rd wicket.

The match on Thursday played between KXIP and SRH held at Mohali was all about Chris Gayle coming back in form. This was Chris Gayle’s second match in IPL 2018 and in both the innings he proved that he is here to stay. Chris Gayle scored unbeaten 104 with the help of 1 four and 11 sixes and begged Player of the Match award for straight two consecutive matches. Apart from Gayle, Nair scored 31 of 21 balls and Finch contributed unbeaten 14 off 6 balls during the death over which helped KXIP scoring a total of 193 runs at a loss of 3 wickets.

SRH’s start was unfortunate as their star batsmen Shikhar Dhawan got retired hurt in the first ball itself, which led to a slow start for SRH. However SRH skipper Kane Williamson and Manish Pandey played well and managed a 76 run partnership for the 3rd wicket, but that could not bring any rescue to them as towards the end of the match, the run rate kept on increasing. Despite Manish Pandey remaining unbeaten SRH could not manage to chase 194 successfully, thereby losing the match to KXIP by 15 runs. Barinder Sran and Mohit Sharma begged two wickets each for KXIP.

 

This was first loss for SRH in IPL 2018. However, SRH and KXIP still occupies the same pre match position of 2nd and 3rd in points table with 6 points each, giving SRH an edge over KXIP due to net run rate.
